Life in Worthing

What brings people in Worthing to counselling?

A town of this size holds a great deal of history in it. There are people in Goring-by-Sea and East Worthing who have carried something for thirty or forty years and have never described it to anybody. There are others whose difficulty is recent, and some of them work in jobs where difficult things are part of the day. Trauma looks fairly consistent from the outside whichever route it took: sleep that breaks in the small hours, a startle out of proportion to the noise, a numbness that arrives without warning, and a quiet list of places, months or conversations that get avoided without ever being explained.

What actually happens in trauma counselling?

Trauma counselling here is gentle and led by you, drawing on methods designed for trauma including the Human Givens Rewind Technique, so a difficult memory is returned to ordinary recall.

The method travels; only the geography changes. everything on trauma counselling explains it properly, the practical side answers the practical questions, and my BACP registration shows how the practice is held to account.

How do sessions work, in person or online?

Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.

Where the hour happens is your decision, and that control is part of the work rather than an administrative detail. In person means a direct train or a drive along the A259 to a private room in central Hove, and an hour completely separate from home. Online by secure video means you finish where you already feel settled, with no journey afterwards. People move between them as things progress.

Trauma Counselling in Worthing

Why people in Worthing come for trauma counselling

You will not be asked to go through what happened. That is the part most people need to hear first, because the expectation of having to retell it keeps them away for years. Bradley works with the Human Givens Rewind Technique, which lowers the intensity of a memory while you remain calm and in control, without depending on a spoken account. Ahead of that, sessions deal with the present: sleep, the reactions that catch you out, what you have been avoiding, and what reliably settles you. Emergency hospital admissions for self-harm in West Sussex reached 127.2 per 100,000 in 2023/24, above the England rate of 117 per 100,000. NHS West Sussex Talking Therapies takes self-referrals and can assess trauma symptoms if you want that running alongside.

Worthing questions

Trauma Counselling in Worthing: common questions

Where do Worthing sessions take place, and can I meet online instead?

In a private room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove. From Worthing the office is around twenty-five to thirty minutes east by car along the A259, or a direct train to Hove. Every service is also available by secure video across the UK, so you can meet from any private space in Worthing or blend the two.

Do I have to tell you the details before anything can help?

You do not. The Rewind Technique is used precisely because it does not require a spoken account, and the early sessions are about how things are for you now. What you share is your choice, session by session, and saying little does not weaken the work.

I work in a caring job and see difficult things regularly. Is this for me?

It is. Repeated exposure at work builds up in much the same way as a single event, and people in those roles often assume they should simply cope. Broken sleep, irritability and numbness are recognised responses, and they respond to focused work.

What are the fees?

The hour costs £80, with ninety minutes at £100 and two hours at £120. A longer appointment leaves more room to arrive properly and to settle at the end, which suits some people for this work. The initial 15-minute consultation is free and carries no commitment.

Which NHS route covers Worthing for trauma?

That would be NHS West Sussex Talking Therapies. You can refer yourself, they will assess, and they offer trauma-focused therapy where it fits or refer on within the NHS where something more specialist is needed. West Sussex Mind can also signpost other support in the town.

After a session, would I be able to face the train home?

That is planned for. Sessions are paced so the closing part is spent settling rather than opening things up, and you leave grounded instead of raw. If the journey home still feels like too much, that is a sound reason to do this work online instead.

Do I have to relive what happened for trauma counselling?

No. The Rewind Technique I often use is gentle and non-intrusive, so you do not need to relive or speak the detail aloud. We go entirely at your pace, in my Hove room a direct train from Worthing, or online, so you stay in control.

How do I book trauma counselling and travel to Hove from Worthing?

We start with a free fifteen-minute call, with no pressure to explain, then a first session. Direct trains from Worthing and West Worthing reach Hove in about twenty minutes, or the A259 takes twenty-five to thirty. If travelling feels too much, online video is always available.

What are your fees for trauma counselling, and what about NHS trauma support in Worthing?

Private sessions are £80 for sixty minutes, £100 for ninety and £120 for two hours, after a free consultation. You can self-refer to free NHS Talking Therapies for West Sussex; waits vary, and seeing me privately means gentle, sooner trauma work at a pace you control.

For trauma, in person in Hove or online from Worthing, and can we meet in the evening?

Many value the containment of the room for trauma work, though some feel safer on video at home; both suit the gentle Rewind Technique. The direct train makes either straightforward. You lead the pace, with evening and weekend slots to fit around work.
