Good to know
Your questions, answered
How many sessions might I need?
This varies greatly from one person to another. We monitor and discuss your progress session by session, but as the client, you're calling the shots. When you've arrived where you want to be, the sessions stop. Once you've finished a course of therapy, you're always welcome to check back in at any time in the future.
What's involved in a session?
We work collaboratively throughout. Sessions are usually a dialogue, but also incorporate somatic experiencing of the senses. You're encouraged to focus on your inner experience, including sensory feedback and embodied cognitions, these can help recall experiences that may have been lost to consciousness. Once remembered and reactivated, they can be reformed (not countered or repressed). Sessions also include brief reviews as appropriate.
What ethical guidelines do you follow?
I'm a member of the BACP, the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy, and a student member of the UKCP, and I adhere to their ethical guidelines.
What about confidentiality?
All information you provide is confidential and will not be shared with anyone outside the therapy room, except under an order from the courts. Even in that highly rare circumstance, you'll be kept informed throughout. Like all therapists, I undertake regular supervision during which I may refer to client cases, and my supervisor is also bound by our confidentiality agreements.
Methods & models
An integrative approach, tailored to you
As an integratively trained therapist, I draw on a range of approaches, choosing what resonates with you and fits the work. These include, but aren't limited to:
Cognitive & behavioural
Working with thoughts and habits to interrupt unhelpful, automatic patterns.
Psychodynamic & psychoanalytical
Understanding how earlier experience shapes present‑day reactions.
Hypnotic suggestion & trance
Gentle, focused techniques to support relaxation and re‑patterning.
Person‑centred & solution‑focused
Led by you, oriented towards where you want to be.
Brainspotting & eye‑movement
Body‑aware methods that help process and release stuck material.
Meditative & psychoeducational
Practical tools and understanding you can carry into everyday life.
Where appropriate, I also use Energy Psychology approaches, including EFT or "tapping," which works with the meridian points used in acupuncture, and the "Life Energy" approaches pioneered by psychiatrist Dr John Diamond.
