Counselling for Drinking Problems
Alcohol seems to clear the confusion, but all it really does is turn off the light. If drinking has become the way you cope, counselling can help you understand why, and find a steadier way forward. In Hove and online.
When we lose sight of our true, authentic selves, confusion reigns. A drink can feel like it clears that confusion, but really it just dims the lights so we don't have to look. For a while, that brings relief.
The trouble is that years of habitual drinking distance us from any other way of being. They lock us into a pattern that can feel impossible to change, where stopping seems unthinkable and carrying on feels unbearable. If that's where you are, you're not weak and you're not alone.
You don't have to have "hit rock bottom" to ask for help, and you don't have to have all the answers before you begin. The only thing required is a quiet wish for something different.
How I work with drinking
In our sessions we take an integrative approach, viewing your difficulties from an existential, humanistic perspective, with you as the expert on your own life.

The same support by secure video, UK‑wide, see online counselling.
We look at the anxiety, low mood and old hurt the drinking has been managing.
Because you are the one who knows yourself best, my role isn't to hand you a rulebook. It's to walk alongside you as you reconnect with the person you were before drinking became the answer, and to help you build genuine, sustainable alternatives to it.
Drinking problems are closely linked to addiction more broadly and to substance use. Where it helps, I can also signpost you to medical or detox services, and to peer support such as AA. You can read about my approach, sessions and fees too.
