Life in Worthing

Why people in Worthing get in touch

Worthing is the largest town in West Sussex and it runs at a proper town pace. Montague Street is busy through the day, Worthing Hospital works around the clock, and a good many people commute out each morning and back each evening. Anxiety attaches itself to all of that: shift patterns that leave the body braced, deadlines, the sense of never quite catching up. It also gets lonely, because a large town can be a place to disappear in. Somebody can walk the length of the seafront past the pier every day, be greeted by nobody, and go home to lie awake rehearsing tomorrow. In 2022/23 the share of West Sussex adults reporting a high anxiety score was 24.5%, compared with 23.8% across England.

What actually happens in anxiety counselling?

Anxiety counselling here is practical and solution-focused: we work on the worry, panic, social anxiety and over-thinking that are actually affecting your day, and on simple ways to settle a nervous system stuck on high alert.

The approach does not change with the postcode, so rather than repeat it on every page you can read it in full, the methods and what each session covers, on everything on anxiety counselling, alongside how I work and how to check my registration.

What does a session actually involve?

Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.

From Worthing the office is around twenty-five to thirty minutes east by car along the A259, or a direct train to Hove. The station link makes in-person sessions genuinely practical from here, which is not true of every town along this coast. Secure video covers the weeks when the journey is too much, or when a shift makes the timing impossible. Most people pick one as their default and keep the other for awkward weeks.

Anxiety Counselling in Worthing

Why people in Worthing come for anxiety counselling

Anxiety counselling is focused, practical and aimed at getting you comfortable again rather than at examining everything. The starting point is your body, because a hammering heart, breathlessness and the urge to escape all follow a pattern once you can see it. Next comes learning to bring that state down at will, which changes the balance of power with the thoughts. After that we take apart the avoidance, the checking and the constant mental rehearsal that keep worry supplied. For shift workers a fair amount of the hour goes on sleep, since a body kept alert for early starts does not settle on command. NHS West Sussex Talking Therapies accepts self-referrals for anxiety at no cost, and West Sussex Mind, whose head office is at The Gateway on Durrington Lane, offers information and peer support.

Worthing questions

Anxiety Counselling in Worthing: common questions

Where do Worthing sessions take place, and can I meet online instead?

In a private room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove. From Worthing the office is around twenty-five to thirty minutes east by car along the A259, or a direct train to Hove. Every service is also available by secure video across the UK, so you can meet from any private space in Worthing or blend the two.

Is the train to Hove workable for a regular weekly session?

For many people here it is. The service is direct and the room is in central Hove, so door to door is usually well under an hour each way. If a week gets complicated, that session can switch to secure video rather than being cancelled.

How long would I wait to start?

Not long. A free 15-minute call generally happens within a few days, and weekly sessions tend to begin within a fortnight. There is no referral needed, no assessment stage and no queue standing between you and a first appointment.

How much is a session, and do I pay in blocks?

Sixty minutes costs £80. Longer appointments are £100 for ninety minutes and £120 for two hours, though the standard hour suits most anxiety work. The first 15-minute consultation is free, and you pay session by session with nothing booked in blocks.

Is self-referral to NHS West Sussex Talking Therapies possible from here?

You can, without going through your GP, and it costs nothing. They offer structured, time-limited courses for anxiety and panic. Waits shift through the year, so a number of people register with them and start private sessions while that goes through.

I work shifts at the hospital and my sleep is wrecked. Where would we start?

With sleep, almost certainly. Broken rest keeps the anxious system switched on, so early sessions build a realistic rhythm around your actual rota rather than a nine to five that does not exist. Improvements there usually show up in daytime anxiety fairly quickly.

Is there a direct route to anxiety counselling from Worthing?

Yes. Direct trains from Worthing and West Worthing run east through Shoreham to Hove in around twenty minutes, with a short walk to my room. By car the A259 takes twenty-five to thirty. Online sessions work just as well if you would rather not travel.

How do I book anxiety counselling and reach Hove from Worthing?

Book a free fifteen-minute call, then a session. Both Worthing and West Worthing stations run direct trains east through Shoreham to Hove in around twenty minutes, with a short walk to Western Road, or the A259 takes twenty-five to thirty. Anxious about travelling? Online video works too.

What do anxiety sessions cost, and is NHS help available from Worthing?

Private sessions are £80 for sixty minutes, £100 for ninety and £120 for two hours, after a free consultation. You can self-refer to free NHS Talking Therapies for West Sussex without a GP, but waits are common, so private work on your anxiety can start sooner.

For anxiety in Worthing, in person or online, and do you run evenings?

Both suit anxiety. The direct train makes the calm room reachable, though many, especially with social anxiety, prefer video from home. You can mix the two, and evening and weekend slots mean sessions fit around a busy week without a rush-hour trek.
