In and around Peacehaven
Life in Peacehaven
There is a particular kind of drinking that belongs to towns with a view. It starts as something pleasant at the end of the day, watching the light go over the water from the top of an avenue, and it stays pleasant for a long while. Then the evenings get earlier and the wine stops being an event. Around Centenary Park and the streets off the South Coast Road nobody is monitoring this. Deliveries arrive, the recycling goes out, life carries on looking orderly from the pavement. Meanwhile the person doing it has begun keeping a private tally, and the tally is the part that gets exhausting.

Counselling for drinking problems here looks beneath the habit at what drives it, you do not need to have hit rock bottom to begin, and signposts medical, detox and peer support where useful.
What actually happens in the room is the same everywhere, so it is written up once: see counselling for drinking problems in detail for the methods, how I work for fees and session lengths, and qualifications, registration and ethics if you want to check who you would be working with.
Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.
Hove is twenty to twenty-five minutes west along the coast for an in-person session in a private room, with the option of the same appointment by secure video when the drive is unappealing. Morning and early afternoon slots are worth asking about if evenings are when the drinking sits, because talking about it hours before it usually starts gives the conversation somewhere to go.

Counselling for Drinking Problems in Peacehaven
You do not have to call yourself an alcoholic to work on your drinking, and you do not have to commit to never drinking again to make a first appointment. Waiting for a crisis is common, and it costs people years. What we do is look at the function alcohol serves for you specifically. Some people are drinking at anxiety, some at boredom, some at grief they have never had a place to put, and some at a long day that has no other full stop. Once the function is clear, the habit stops looking like weakness and starts looking like a solution that has aged badly. Any change to a heavy or daily intake needs medical advice first, and that comes from a GP rather than from counselling. Alcohol-specific admissions in East Sussex ran at 507.1 per 100,000 in 2023/24, below the England average of 611.7. East Sussex County Council's drug and alcohol support is the county route, with STAR providing recovery services locally.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.
Book a free 15-minute callMy counselling sits alongside the help available locally. In Peacehaven, free local drug and alcohol support is available through East Sussex County Council's drug and alcohol support.
For confidential information and advice, FRANK (on 0300 123 6600) and Drinkline on 0300 123 1110 are free, and Alcoholics Anonymous and SMART Recovery run peer-support meetings you can find online.
Other local and national support verified for this area includes:
This is not a crisis service. If anyone is in immediate danger call 999. For urgent mental health support, call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option. The Samaritans are free, day or night, on 116 123, or text SHOUT to 85258.
If you drink heavily or use drugs daily, do not stop suddenly on your own. Withdrawal can cause seizures and can be dangerous. Speak to your GP or a local drug and alcohol service first, and they can arrange a safe, medically supported withdrawal. Counselling works alongside that, not instead of it.
Peacehaven questions
In a private room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove. From Peacehaven the coast road runs west through Saltdean and Brighton to the Hove office in around twenty to twenty-five minutes. Every service is also available by secure video across the UK, so you can meet from any private space in Peacehaven or blend the two.
You do not. Some people arrive intending to stop, others want to understand the habit before deciding anything, and both are workable. Being pushed toward a goal you have not chosen tends to end the work early, so the aim is one you set yourself.
An hour a week comes to £80. Should you want longer, 90 minutes is £100 and two hours is £120, though most people find the hour enough. The first 15-minute conversation is free and carries no expectation of booking afterwards.
East Sussex County Council's drug and alcohol support covers alcohol as well as drugs, and STAR is the recovery service that Change Grow Live runs in the county. If your drinking is heavy or daily, speak to a GP before changing it, since stopping abruptly can be dangerous.
Yes, and for drinking that is often the better choice. Daytime slots in Hove mean you are not driving the coast road afterwards and not arriving at the hour when the habit is loudest. The same daytime slots are available on video.
It is not, though it is easier to overlook. Drinking at home has no closing time and no one else pouring, so the amount tends to drift upwards unnoticed. That it never causes a scene is precisely why it can carry on for years unquestioned.
Yes. Secure video sessions work just as well as meeting in the room and save the coastal journey, which many Peacehaven clients find makes starting much easier.
Book a free fifteen-minute consultation on 07914 681995 or via the contact page. From Peacehaven the Hove room is twenty to twenty-five minutes along the coast road through Saltdean and Brighton, or the 12 and 14 buses towards Brighton with a change for Hove.
Fees are £80 for an hour, £100 for ninety minutes and £120 for two hours, after a free call. In East Sussex you can self-refer to Change Grow Live for free alcohol support, and to Health in Mind, the NHS Talking Therapies service, for related low mood.
Both. The Hove room offers a private hour away from a self-reliant clifftop community, with evening slots to fit around work. Given the distance, many prefer secure video, which is just as effective, and you can blend the two as things steady.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
