In and around Saltdean
Life in Saltdean
A drink at the end of the day fits this town perfectly. The view is good, the evening is quiet, and there is nothing much to interrupt. That is exactly why it drifts. What began as one glass while the light went became two, then became the reason the evening passes at all, and nobody up on The Oval or Marine Drive is counting. Seasons pass this way. The habit never causes an incident and never gets challenged, so the only person who notices is you: in the shallow sleep, the flat mornings, and the small argument you have with yourself every afternoon about tonight.

Counselling for drinking problems here looks beneath the habit at what drives it, you do not need to have hit rock bottom to begin, and signposts medical, detox and peer support where useful.
What actually happens in the room is the same everywhere, so it is written up once: see counselling for drinking problems in detail for the methods, session lengths and fees for fees and session lengths, and my BACP registration if you want to check who you would be working with.
Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.
In-person sessions mean the coast road west for twenty to twenty-five minutes, and the Hove room has parking close to it. Daytime slots suit this work well, both because the drive is easier and because talking about drinking before the evening starts tends to be more useful than talking about it afterwards. The same appointment is available by secure video whenever travelling does not appeal.

Counselling for Drinking Problems in Saltdean
There is no requirement to have hit anything, lost anything, or decided anything final. Waiting until things are bad enough to count is one of the commonest ways a drinking habit gets years it did not deserve. What matters at the start is not how much you drink but what it is for. Marking the end of a day, filling a stretch of time that feels empty, dulling anxiety, taking the sharpness off loneliness, or holding down something from long ago. When that becomes visible the habit is no longer mysterious and can be worked with. Nothing here is medical: if your drinking is daily or heavy, changes to it need a GP's involvement first because stopping suddenly can be dangerous. The city recorded an alcohol-specific death rate of 16.4 per 100,000 in 2024, above the England figure of 13.8. The NHS find a service directory lists free alcohol services, and Mind in Brighton and Hove offers support alongside.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.
Book a free 15-minute callMy counselling sits alongside the help available locally. You can find your nearest free NHS-funded drug and alcohol service via the NHS “find a service” directory (search “Saltdean”).
For confidential information and advice, FRANK (on 0300 123 6600) and Drinkline on 0300 123 1110 are free, and Alcoholics Anonymous and SMART Recovery run peer-support meetings you can find online.
Other local and national support verified for this area includes:
This is not a crisis service. If anyone is in immediate danger call 999. For urgent mental health support, call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option. The Samaritans are free, day or night, on 116 123, or text SHOUT to 85258.
If you drink heavily or use drugs daily, do not stop suddenly on your own. Withdrawal can cause seizures and can be dangerous. Speak to your GP or a local drug and alcohol service first, and they can arrange a safe, medically supported withdrawal. Counselling works alongside that, not instead of it.
Saltdean questions
In a private room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove. From Saltdean the coast road brings you west through Rottingdean and Brighton to the Hove office in around twenty to twenty-five minutes. Every service is also available by secure video across the UK, so you can meet from any private space in Saltdean or blend the two.
It makes it harder to see rather than automatically worse. Drinking alone has no company setting the pace and no natural finish, so the amount tends to creep. It also means nobody is likely to raise it with you, which is why people often arrive quite late.
The standard hour costs £80. Where more time is wanted, 90 minutes is £100 and 120 minutes is £120. Every arrangement starts with a free 15-minute conversation, which exists to answer questions rather than to book you in. You pay for each session as it happens, so stopping is simple.
The NHS find a service directory is the place to look, since Brighton and Hove has no verified council alcohol page. It lists specialist services at no cost. If you drink every day, speak to your GP before altering the amount, as that carries medical risk.
There are, and they are worth asking for. A morning or early afternoon slot means the coast road in daylight and the hour finished well before the evening. If the drive still feels like too much, the same slot can be taken on video.
It can, because the pattern you are describing is about time and mood rather than about alcohol alone. Long dark evenings with little happening give a habit somewhere to expand into, and that is workable once the shape of it is clear.
Yes. We look at what the drinking has been doing for you, including the loneliness underneath it, and work towards steadier ways of meeting that need. It is gentle, confidential and led by you.
Book a free fifteen-minute consultation on 07914 681995 or via the contact page. From Saltdean the Hove room is twenty to twenty-five minutes along the coast road through Rottingdean and Brighton, or the 12 bus with a change for Hove.
Fees are £80 for an hour, £100 for ninety minutes and £120 for two hours, after a free call. For free routes, Saltdean residents can self-refer to Pavilions for alcohol support and to NHS Talking Therapies Brighton and Hove for the low mood beneath drinking.
Both. The Hove room offers a private hour away from a close clifftop community, with evening slots to fit around work. Given the distance, many prefer secure video from home, which is equally confidential, and you can blend the two as things settle.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
