In and around Hove
Life in Hove
Hove wears a composed face. Wide streets, the lawns, the shops along Church Road, people walking dogs at a sensible pace. That composure can make anxiety feel like something you ought to be hiding better. Plenty of people here describe a morning that starts with a jolt before the alarm, a day spent managing an internal weather system nobody else can see, and an evening spent recovering from the effort. It might show up around work, money, health, or nothing you can name. A walk from Palmeira Square down to the seafront should be pleasant, and instead becomes an hour of arguing with your own thoughts while the sea does what it always does.

Anxiety counselling here is practical and solution-focused: we work on the worry, panic, social anxiety and over-thinking that are actually affecting your day, and on simple ways to settle a nervous system stuck on high alert.
Because the work itself is the same wherever you live, the detail sits in one place rather than all of them: everything on anxiety counselling sets out the methods, session lengths and fees covers the practicalities, and professional standards and registration covers accountability.
Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.
This is the easiest place of all to be seen in person, since the room is in central Hove, a few minutes on foot from Palmeira Square and the seafront and a short bus ride from most of the neighbourhood. Sessions can also be held online by secure video whenever that suits better. Being able to walk to an appointment matters for anxiety, because a short familiar route is far less of an obstacle than a long unfamiliar one.

Anxiety Counselling in Hove
What people usually want from anxiety counselling is not insight for its own sake but for it to stop running the day. So the work is practical from early on. We take apart the pattern in detail, since the physical side, the thinking and the avoidance all keep each other going, and knowing exactly how yours operates is the beginning of loosening it. Then come techniques that genuinely lower the arousal, practised until they hold under pressure, and a staged return to whatever has been quietly dropped. In this city 26.7% of adults reported a high anxiety score in 2022/23, compared with an England average of 23.8%. The Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service is the free NHS Talking Therapies route and takes self-referrals, and Mind in Brighton and Hove offers information and groups locally.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.

Seeing me privately usually means you can start sooner and stay with the same counsellor throughout, working at greater depth and pace; the two can run side by side, and I am glad to work alongside any NHS or GP support you already have.

The office sits on Western Road in central Hove, a few minutes' walk from Palmeira Square and the seafront, and a short bus ride from Hove Station. Every service is also available by secure video across the UK, so you can meet from any private space in Hove or blend the two.
Generally within a week or two of the free 15-minute call, and that call itself is usually arranged within a few days. No referral is required. Living this close means you can often take a slot that would be impractical for someone travelling from further out.
Sixty minutes comes to £80, ninety to £100, and a two-hour session to £120. Most anxiety work happens in weekly hours. The initial 15-minute consultation is free, and it is genuinely a conversation rather than a sales pitch, so you can decide afterwards without any pressure.
You can. The Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service provides NHS Talking Therapies across the city and accepts self-referrals without a GP letter, free of charge. With 26.7% of adults locally reporting a high anxiety score in 2022/23, against 23.8% for England, waiting times change through the year.
Whichever you will keep doing. Walking has a real advantage: the journey either side gives you a few minutes to arrive and to come back down afterwards. Video is there for weeks when the walk is more than you want to take on.
Extremely. It is one of the most frequent things said in a first session, particularly in a neighbourhood that presents as settled and comfortable. Anxiety is a nervous system state, not a report card on your circumstances, and it does not require a justification.
Yes. My room is on Western Road in central Hove, a few minutes from Palmeira Square and the seafront lawns, so most Hove clients simply walk in. Buses stop close by and there is on-street parking nearby. Online video sessions are there too if you prefer.
It could hardly be simpler. Book a free fifteen-minute call, then a first session at Intergen House, 65-67 Western Road, in central Hove. Most local clients just walk in, a few minutes from Palmeira Square or the seafront lawns. If anxiety makes leaving home hard, we can meet online.
Private sessions are £80 for an hour, £100 for ninety minutes and £120 for two, after a free consultation. You can also self-refer to free NHS Talking Therapies for Brighton & Hove without a GP, though waits are common; seeing me privately means starting your anxiety work sooner.
As a neighbour you can easily walk to the room, which many find grounding for anxiety, but secure video from home is equally effective, especially with social anxiety. You can blend both. Evening and weekend slots mean sessions fit around work along Church Road or elsewhere.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
