In and around Brighton
Life in Brighton
Brighton runs at a pace that hides anxiety rather well. There is always something on and always someone to meet, so a person who is out most evenings looks, from the outside, like a person who is fine. Underneath, plenty of people here are carrying a low hum of dread that starts before they open their eyes. It might be a tight chest on the bus up London Road, or a sudden need to leave a crowded pub in the Lanes, or a Sunday spent recovering from a week of pretending. Rents are high and a lot of work in this city is freelance or seasonal, so the mental arithmetic never quite stops. North Laine on a Saturday can be too much noise arriving at once.

Anxiety counselling here is practical and solution-focused: we work on the worry, panic, social anxiety and over-thinking that are actually affecting your day, and on simple ways to settle a nervous system stuck on high alert.
What actually happens in the room is the same everywhere, so it is written up once: see the main anxiety counselling page for the methods, how sessions run and what they cost for fees and session lengths, and my credentials and registration if you want to check who you would be working with.
Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.
You can be seen face to face in a private room in central Hove, or online by secure video if that suits you better. From the middle of Brighton it is a short ride west along the seafront, roughly ten to fifteen minutes by bus, taxi or car, and the walk from Brighton Station is manageable. Where anxiety involves buses, crowds or leaving the house at all, that choice matters. Some people begin on video and move to face-to-face sessions later.

Anxiety Counselling in Brighton
Anxiety is not a character flaw and it is not something you have failed to reason your way out of. It is a nervous system that has learned to stay ready. The work is practical. We start with what your body actually does when the alarm goes off, because once that stops being mysterious it loses a good deal of its power. Then we build a small number of things that reliably bring the level down, and practise them while you are calm rather than only mid-panic. After that the avoidance comes apart in order, smallest first, so the places you have quietly stopped going become possible again. In Brighton and Hove 26.7% of adults reported a high anxiety score in 2022/23, above the England average of 23.8%. Alongside private sessions you can refer yourself to the Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service, the NHS Talking Therapies route for the city.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.

Brighton questions
In a private room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove. The counselling room is a short ride west from central Brighton along the seafront or Western Road, roughly ten to fifteen minutes by bus, taxi or car, and walkable from Brighton Station. Every service is also available by secure video across the UK, so you can meet from any private space in Brighton or blend the two.
A free 15-minute consultation can usually happen within a few days of you getting in touch, and weekly sessions normally begin a week or two after that. No referral is needed and there is no waiting list. If you would rather start online while you work out whether the trip to Hove is manageable, that is entirely fine.
An hour is £80. Longer appointments are available at £100 for 90 minutes and £120 for two hours, though most anxiety work sits comfortably inside the hour. The first 15-minute consultation costs nothing, so you are not spending anything before you have heard how this is likely to go.
Yes. The Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service takes self-referrals for NHS Talking Therapies and costs nothing. Demand across the city is real: recorded depression on GP registers alone reached 14.1% of patients aged 18 and over in 2024/25. Many people join that list and start privately while they wait.
No. You can work entirely online by secure video from home, and many people in the city do exactly that. If travel is one of the things you want back, we can make the journey itself one of the graded steps, and meet in Hove once that feels within reach.
Not on its own, though constant noise, late nights and expensive housing give worry plenty of material to work with. What matters more is whether you have anywhere to set it down. The session is the hour in your week when you are not managing anybody else's impression of you.
Yes. Whether it is hospitality shifts, freelance uncertainty or the constant buzz of a city that never quite slows, we work with the worry and tension that builds. Sessions run in my discreet Hove room, a short trip from the centre, or online by secure video.
Start with a free fifteen-minute call to see if we fit, then we book a first session. From central Brighton the 1, 6 and 7 buses run along Western Road to near Intergen House, or the train to Hove takes a few minutes. Anxious about travelling? We can meet online instead.
Private sessions are £80 for sixty minutes, £100 for ninety and £120 for two hours, after a free consultation. You can also self-refer to free NHS Talking Therapies for Brighton & Hove without a GP; waiting lists are common, so seeing me privately lets you start on your anxiety sooner.
Both work well for anxiety. Some Brighton clients find the calm Hove room grounding; others prefer the safety of video from their own flat, especially with social anxiety. You can mix the two, and evening and weekend slots mean sessions fit around hospitality or creative work.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
