Life in Brighton

Depression Counselling for people in Brighton

Brighton moves at its own pace, a city where the creative industries, the universities and the tourist crowds all overlap within a few busy streets. People pack the cafes around North Laine, drift between the independent shops of the Lanes, and gather on the pebbles whenever the weather turns. Behind that energy, though, the pressures are real: high rents, long hours in hospitality and the arts, and the particular loneliness a lively place can hide. Many who live here value somewhere calm and private to think, away from a scene where faces are quickly recognised. Sitting down with a counsellor a short way along the coast in Hove offers exactly that kind of discretion, whether you come in person or meet online from a flat near the seafront.

The depression counselling itself

Depression counselling here is steady and structured: we focus on the low mood, lost motivation and disconnection affecting you now, and on rebuilding the energy, routine and self-worth that hold a day together.

The approach is the same wherever you come from, so rather than repeat it on every page you can read it in full, the methods, what each session covers and fees, on the main depression counselling page and on how I work.

Sessions in person or online

Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.

From central Brighton the Hove room is a straightforward journey west. The 1, 6 and 7 buses run along Western Road towards Palmeira Square, and a taxi or drive takes roughly ten to fifteen minutes along the seafront. Trains from Brighton Station reach Hove in a few minutes, leaving a short walk to Intergen House. When travelling in is awkward, the same sessions run online by secure video.

Depression Counselling in Brighton

Why people in Brighton come for depression counselling

For all its colour and crowds, Brighton can be a lonely place to feel low. A lively city seems to assume everyone is thriving, which can make exhaustion, emptiness or withdrawal harder to admit, especially when the cafes of North Laine and the seafront are full. Depression counselling offers a steady, unhurried space to make sense of what you are carrying and slowly rebuild the rhythms of a day. There is no waiting room and no rush; my room is a short way west in Hove, comfortably apart from the busy streets, and online sessions by secure video work just as well from home.

Finding support in Brighton

My counselling sits alongside the help available locally. In Brighton, you can refer yourself directly to the Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service for free NHS talking therapy, with no GP referral needed.

Seeing me privately usually means you can start sooner and stay with the same counsellor throughout, working at greater depth and pace; the two can run side by side, and I am glad to work alongside any NHS or GP support you already have.

If you need urgent help now

This is not a crisis service. If anyone is in immediate danger call 999. For urgent mental health support, call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option. The Samaritans are free, day or night, on 116 123, or text SHOUT to 85258.

Brighton questions

Depression Counselling in Brighton: common questions

Where do Brighton sessions take place, and can I meet online instead?

In a private room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove. The counselling room is a short ride west from central Brighton along the seafront or Western Road, roughly ten to fifteen minutes by bus, taxi or car, and walkable from Brighton Station. Every service is also available by secure video across the UK, so you can meet from any private space in Brighton or blend the two.

What if I don't have the motivation to attend?

Low motivation is part of depression, not a sign you are unsuited to therapy. Working online removes the journey, which is often the hardest part on a flat day.

Will I have to talk about my whole past?

Only as much as helps. We focus on what is weighing on you now and on small, doable steps, rather than analysing everything that has ever happened.

Can counselling help alongside antidepressants?

Yes. Many people do both; talking therapy and medication work on different things, and I am glad to work alongside your GP.

I feel low but Brighton seems so upbeat, is counselling still for me?

Absolutely. A lively city can make low mood feel isolating, as though you should be enjoying it all. You do not need to justify how you feel. We work at a realistic pace in my Hove room or online, whichever feels easier on the day.

How do I arrange depression counselling and reach Hove from Brighton?

When motivation is low, I keep booking simple: one free fifteen-minute call, then a first appointment. The room is on Western Road, a short 1, 6 or 7 bus ride or a quick train from Brighton Station to Hove. If leaving the house feels hard, we can begin online.

How much is depression counselling, and how does it compare to NHS support in Brighton?

Sessions are £80 for an hour, £100 for ninety minutes and £120 for two, following a free consultation. Free NHS Talking Therapies for Brighton & Hove takes self-referrals without a GP, but waiting times can drain momentum; starting privately means help with low mood begins now.

Can I have depression counselling online from Brighton, or is coming in better, and are evenings available?

Either suits depression work. On heavy days, video from home spares you the journey; other weeks, getting out to the Hove room and along the seafront can lift things a little. We can alternate, and evening and weekend appointments help when energy is unpredictable.

Is the Hove counselling room easy to reach from central Brighton?

Yes. It sits on Western Road, the same road that runs west out of the city centre, so the 1, 6 and 7 buses drop you close by and the train from Brighton Station takes only a few minutes to Hove. Prefer to stay put? Sessions also run online.

Will I bump into people I know if I come from Brighton?

The room is in central Hove, a short distance from the busiest Brighton streets, which many clients find reassuringly discreet. You arrive straight to your appointment with no waiting room. If you would still rather not travel, online video sessions keep things entirely private.
