In and around Patcham
Life in Patcham
Patcham keeps the shape of a village inside a city. Around All Saints Church, the flint walls of Patcham Place and the old dovecote, families stay put for decades, and the avenues climbing towards Ladies Mile are full of people who know one another by name. That settledness counts for something. It can also make a struggling marriage very hard to carry. You pass the same faces on Carden Avenue. You keep the front door shut on an argument that started before breakfast. Couples here often arrive having told nobody local for a year or more, not because the trouble is unusual, but because there is nowhere in the village to set it down. Recorded depression here stood at 14.1% of adults in 2024/25, just below the England average.

Relationship counselling here, for couples or individuals, slows down the pattern you are caught in and builds healthier ways of hearing and being heard.
Because the work itself is the same wherever you live, the detail sits in one place rather than all of them: the relationship counselling page sets out the methods, how I work, sessions and fees covers the practicalities, and how to check my registration covers accountability.
Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.
From Patcham it is roughly fifteen minutes down the A23 and Old London Road into the city, then west to the Hove room, where couples and individuals are both seen face to face. Some partners travel in together and use the drive home to let the hour settle. Others would rather arrive separately, and that is fine. When one of you is away, working late or not ready yet, the same relationship work runs online by secure video.

Relationship Counselling in Patcham
Relationship counselling is not only for two people who arrive as a pair. Plenty of people from this part of Brighton come on their own, because a partner will not come yet, or because they want to understand their own share of it before anything is said at home. Both are proper work. What gets examined is the pattern between you: how a small disagreement about the school run turns into the same row as last year, who withdraws and who pursues, and what neither of you has managed to say out loud. Where drinking, low mood or a long worry has taken up residence in the marriage, that gets named too, rather than left as something one of you handles privately. If you also want NHS-funded help, the Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service accepts self-referrals without a GP appointment first. Mind in Brighton and Hove runs local groups. Neither rules out doing this work alongside.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.

Seeing me privately usually means you can start sooner and stay with the same counsellor throughout, working at greater depth and pace; the two can run side by side, and I am glad to work alongside any NHS or GP support you already have.

Patcham questions
In a private room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove. From Patcham it is roughly fifteen minutes down the A23 and London Road into the city, then west to the Hove office. Every service is also available by secure video across the UK, so you can meet from any private space in Patcham or blend the two.
Yes. A good deal of relationship work happens with one person in the chair. You can look at what you contribute, what you are willing to change and what you need, without waiting for anyone else to agree. Some partners join later. Some never do, and the work still moves.
Allow about fifteen minutes by car down the A23 and Old London Road, then west across the city, and a little more at the tail of rush hour. Buses run down that corridor towards the centre and on to Western Road. There is parking near the room.
The same as any other session: £80 / 60 min, £100 / 90 min, or £120 / 120 min. Many couples find the ninety-minute slot works better, because two people rarely finish in an hour. A free 15-minute consultation lets you ask questions before booking anything.
You can, and it costs nothing to ask. That service takes self-referrals and is worth a call. Waits vary, and its focus is usually the individual rather than the couple. Some people use it for their own low mood and come here for the relationship itself.
The room is in Hove, a good distance from the school gate and the shops you use. Nothing is shared with your GP unless you ask for that. Names are not on a public list. If even the journey feels exposed, secure video keeps the whole thing at home.
Yes. The room is down in central Hove, well away from Patcham's village and school gates, and you arrive straight to your appointment with no waiting room. It is about fifteen minutes by car or bus. If you would rather not travel, online sessions keep things entirely private.
Start with a free fifteen-minute call, then come over for your session. From Patcham the route runs south down the A23 and London Road into Brighton, then west to Hove, about fifteen minutes by car, with buses along the London Road corridor following much the same way.
Sessions are £80 for sixty minutes, £100 for ninety and £120 for two hours, after a free fifteen-minute consultation. The NHS seldom funds couples work, so most Patcham clients choose private sessions, valuing a discreet room away from familiar school gates and neighbours.
Yes. Couples are welcome in the Hove room, or you can share one secure video call from home, which many Patcham clients value when a struggle feels too close to home. Individuals can come alone too. Evening slots are available, and you can mix travelling in with online sessions.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
