Life in Hangleton

Why people in Hangleton get in touch

Streets like Hangleton Way and Grinstead Lane are full of long partnerships. Twenty years, a mortgage, children who have grown or are still upstairs, and two people who have not had an uninterrupted conversation since about 2019. Nothing dramatic has happened. You are polite, you divide the jobs, you watch the same programmes and go up at different times. Neighbours here tend to know each other, which is warm most of the time and awkward when your own front room has gone quiet. Money is often part of it, and so is tiredness, and so is the fact that neither of you wants to be the one who says it out loud first and makes it real.

What actually happens in relationship counselling?

Relationship counselling here, for couples or individuals, slows down the pattern you are caught in and builds healthier ways of hearing and being heard.

Rather than say the same thing on every page, the substance lives on the full relationship counselling page, with how I work for the practical questions and qualifications, registration and ethics for registration and ethics.

How do sessions work, in person or online?

Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.

Getting down into central Hove takes ten to fifteen minutes by bus from Hangleton Road or West Way, or the same by car. That closeness makes weekly appointments easy to sustain, and it puts a short distance between the session and your own street, which most couples find helps. You are welcome to come together or separately. Where travel does not suit, the same hour runs online by secure video, on one screen or from two different rooms.

Relationship Counselling in Hangleton

Why people in Hangleton come for relationship counselling

Couples usually arrive here late, after years of managing. The pattern is familiar: an argument that restarts every few weeks from a different angle, or no argument at all, which is often worse. Trust may have been broken once and never properly repaired, only survived. Sometimes drink is quietly organising the evenings, or one of you has been low for so long that the other has forgotten what it was like before. We take one exchange apart and look at what was being asked for underneath the words, which is usually simpler and sadder than the argument itself. Repair after a breach is treated as a slow build, at the pace of the person who was hurt. You are also welcome on your own; a good deal shifts when only one person changes what they do. Across Brighton and Hove, 14.1% of patients aged 18 and over were on GP depression registers in 2024/25, a shade under the England figure of 14.3%. The Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service takes self-referrals.

Hangleton questions

Relationship Counselling in Hangleton: common questions

Where do Hangleton sessions take place, and can I meet online instead?

In a private room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove. From Hangleton it is a straightforward ten to fifteen minute drive or bus down into central Hove and Western Road. Every service is also available by secure video across the UK, so you can meet from any private space in Hangleton or blend the two.

My wife will not agree to come. Can I book on my own?

Yes. Individual relationship counselling is a proper piece of work, not second best. We look at your side of the pattern, what you keep hoping will be noticed, and what happens if you stop waiting for it. Partners sometimes join later once they see it is not an ambush.

How soon could we get a first appointment?

Usually a week or two after the free 15-minute consultation, which is a short conversation rather than an assessment. Nobody needs to refer you. Because Hangleton is only fifteen minutes from the room, late afternoon and early evening slots tend to be workable for people coming after work.

What is the cost, and does it double for two people?

It does not. One appointment, one fee: £80 for an hour, £100 for ninety minutes, £120 for two hours. Couples often take ninety minutes because an hour goes quickly when two people need to speak. The initial 15-minute call is free and you are under no obligation afterwards.

Is there anything free through the NHS for couples in Hove?

The Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service is the NHS Talking Therapies team for this area and accepts self-referrals. Its work is mostly individual and focused on anxiety and low mood rather than couple work, and waits vary. Mind in Brighton and Hove keeps information on other local support.

We live so close. Might we bump into people we know at the room?

It is a shared building on a busy road in central Hove, with nothing on the door to say why anyone is there. Appointments are spaced so people are not passing each other. If you would still rather not travel in at all, video from home removes the question.

How do we reach relationship counselling from Hangleton?

Buses run from Hangleton Road and West Way down into central Hove, near Western Road, and driving takes roughly ten to fifteen minutes, with on-street parking close by. Many Hangleton couples also choose online video sessions when a trip down the hill is inconvenient.

How do I book couples counselling and get down to Hove from Hangleton?

Start with a free fifteen-minute call, then come down for your session. Buses from Hangleton Road and West Way run into central Hove near Western Road, and driving down through the town takes around ten to fifteen minutes, with on-street parking close to the room.

What do sessions cost, and is relationship counselling on the NHS in Hangleton?

Relationship sessions are £80 for sixty minutes, £100 for ninety and £120 for two hours, after a free fifteen-minute consultation. The NHS rarely funds couples work, so most Hangleton clients choose private sessions, valuing a confidential room kept comfortably separate from a quiet, family neighbourhood.

Can we attend together or meet online, and do you offer evenings for Hangleton?

Yes. Couples can come to the Hove room, a short run down the hill, or share a secure video call from home, which suits days when travelling feels like too much. Individuals are welcome alone. Evening slots are available, and you can mix the trip down with online sessions.
