In and around Brighton
Life in Brighton
Two people can share a small flat in Brighton and still lose track of each other. One works late in a kitchen or a bar off North Laine; the other keeps ordinary hours and is asleep by the time the front door goes. Rent takes most of what you both earn, so the conversation narrows to who is paying what and who is covering Saturday. Around Hanover and Round Hill there are couples who look perfectly sociable from outside and feel strangely separate from within. A busy city hides that well. Friends overlap here too, which makes saying anything out loud feel like handing news to a whole circle, so most people say nothing for a very long time.

Relationship counselling here, for couples or individuals, slows down the pattern you are caught in and builds healthier ways of hearing and being heard.
Rather than say the same thing on every page, the substance lives on everything on relationship counselling, with session lengths and fees for the practical questions and my credentials and registration for registration and ethics.
Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.
Sessions happen in person in Hove, ten to fifteen minutes west of central Brighton by bus, taxi or car along the seafront, and walkable from Brighton Station if you are heading that way already. Some couples travel in separately and meet at the door, which helps on an evening when you have barely spoken. The same appointment can be held online by secure video instead, sitting together with one laptop or joining from two different places.

Relationship Counselling in Brighton
People arrive at relationship work here for wearing, ordinary reasons. The talk has shrunk to logistics. Drink has crept into the middle of the evening and changed who you both are by ten. Or one of you has gone flat and withdrawn, and the other has quietly turned into a carer rather than a partner. None of that needs to be a crisis to be worth an hour a week. The work is slow and practical: we take one argument that keeps restarting and look at what each of you was really asking for underneath it. Where trust has been damaged we stay with it rather than hurrying past. You do not need your partner to agree, either; a surprising amount shifts when one person starts seeing the pattern. Locally, recorded depression on GP registers stood at 14.1% of patients aged 18 and over in 2024/25, just below the England average of 14.3%. The Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service takes self-referrals, and Mind in Brighton and Hove runs local support.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.
Book a free 15-minute callMy counselling sits alongside the help available locally. In Brighton, you can refer yourself directly to the Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service for free NHS talking therapy, with no GP referral needed.
Seeing me privately usually means you can start sooner and stay with the same counsellor throughout, working at greater depth and pace; the two can run side by side, and I am glad to work alongside any NHS or GP support you already have.

This is not a crisis service. If anyone is in immediate danger call 999. For urgent mental health support, call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option. The Samaritans are free, day or night, on 116 123, or text SHOUT to 85258.
Brighton questions
In a private room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove. The counselling room is a short ride west from central Brighton along the seafront or Western Road, roughly ten to fifteen minutes by bus, taxi or car, and walkable from Brighton Station. Every service is also available by secure video across the UK, so you can meet from any private space in Brighton or blend the two.
You begin with a free 15-minute consultation, which is a short talk rather than an assessment. Weekly appointments usually follow within a week or two. There is no referral and no list to join. If shift work means only late slots are realistic for one of you, say so on that first call.
No. The fee covers the appointment, not the number of people in the room. It is £80 for 60 minutes, £100 for 90 minutes and £120 for 120 minutes. Couples often choose a longer session simply because two people need more room to talk. That opening 15-minute conversation is free of charge.
The Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service is the local NHS Talking Therapies team and takes self-referrals without going through your GP. It works mainly with individuals on anxiety and low mood rather than with couples, and there is normally a wait. Mind in Brighton and Hove also lists local support.
Most people use headphones and whichever room has a door. Some join from a parked car, or one of you from work and the other from home. Two separate connections often feel calmer than sitting shoulder to shoulder. If privacy at home is impossible, coming to Hove in person solves it entirely.
The room is in Hove rather than in the middle of town, on a busy road where nobody has any reason to notice who goes in. Nothing is written on the door. What you say stays between us, within the usual limits about serious risk that I would explain at the start.
Yes. Many people in Brighton start relationship work alone, whether a partner is unwilling or you simply want to understand your own part first. Working with one person can still change a stuck dynamic. The Hove room is a short ride west, and online sessions are available too.
Start with a free fifteen-minute call, then book your first session as a couple or on your own. From central Brighton the 1, 6 and 7 buses run west along Western Road, and the train from Brighton Station reaches Hove in a few minutes, a short walk from my room.
Sessions are £80 for sixty minutes, £100 for ninety, or £120 for two hours, and the first fifteen-minute consultation is free. Relationship work is rarely funded by the NHS, so most Brighton couples choose private sessions to begin promptly rather than join a long waiting list.
Yes. You can come as a couple to the Hove room or share one secure video call from a flat near the seafront. Individuals are welcome too. Evening slots suit Brighton hospitality and shift patterns, and you can alternate in-person and online sessions to fit a busy week.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
