Online Relationship Counselling · Sheffield

In and around Sheffield
Life in Sheffield
Sheffield holds two very different lives inside one city, and couples often have a foot in each. One of you is on a contract in the advanced manufacturing sector, the other on a ward rota at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, and between you the week is a relay rather than a shared life. Or you bought in Nether Edge at the top of what you could manage and the repayments have quietly become the third person in the marriage. The steel heritage that shaped this place also shaped a generation of men who were not encouraged to say much, and their sons inherited some of it. What arrives in a session is usually not a crisis. It is two people who have become efficient with each other and stopped being warm.

Relationship counselling here, for couples or individuals, slows down the pattern you are caught in and builds healthier ways of hearing and being heard.
The approach does not change with the postcode, so rather than repeat it on every page you can read it in full, the methods and what each session covers, on the full relationship counselling page, alongside how I work and professional standards and registration.
Sessions run over a secure, encrypted video link, held to the same BACP confidentiality as meeting in person. After a free fifteen-minute call, you join from any private space on a phone, tablet or laptop.
Sessions run by secure video, because Bradley is in Hove and there is no room anywhere in Sheffield. That removes the awkward practicalities: no crossing the city at rush hour, no waiting room, no arriving separately and pretending you have not just argued in the car. You can sit together at home in Walkley, or one of you can join from work if that is the only way the hour exists. A free 15-minute call comes first, then a protected weekly slot.

Relationship Counselling in Sheffield
The commonest reasons are drift, a betrayal that has not been resolved, and the strain that one person's low mood or drinking puts on both. In Sheffield, 20.8% of adults reported a high anxiety score in 2022/23, below the England average of 23.8%, though what matters in a relationship is not the city's ranking but what anxiety does inside a house: the need to check, the snapping, the retreat upstairs. Sessions look at the sequence that repeats between you and at the fear or the hurt sitting under it, and at whether the two of you can rebuild trust honestly rather than by agreement to forget. Attending as a couple is not required and many people begin on their own. NHS Sheffield Talking Therapies takes individual self-referrals, Sheffield Mind runs support locally, and Likewise Sheffield is the free adult drug and alcohol service if that has become part of the argument.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.
Book a free 15-minute callMy online counselling sits alongside the help available locally. In Sheffield, you can refer yourself directly to NHS Sheffield Talking Therapies for free NHS talking therapy, with no GP referral needed.
Private sessions with me usually mean you can start sooner and stay with the same counsellor throughout; I am glad to work alongside any NHS or GP support you already have.

This is not a crisis service. If anyone is in immediate danger call 999. For urgent mental health support, call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option. The Samaritans are free, day or night, on 116 123, or text SHOUT to 85258.
Sheffield questions
Yes. Individual relationship work is confidential and plenty of people start that way while they decide what they want. It is not a secret weapon against your partner; it is a place to get clear about your own part before you have any bigger conversation at home.
The charge is per session: £80 for 60 minutes, £100 for 90 minutes, £120 for 120 minutes, the same whether one or two people are on the call. Most couples take 90 minutes. The first 15-minute consultation is free and there is nothing to commit to afterwards.
It is set up for individuals with anxiety and depression rather than for couples work, and it is free to self-refer into. If one of you is struggling personally it is a good route to take at the same time, and the two kinds of help sit together perfectly well.
It is, because there is no travel attached. Slots can be set around a rota, and if one of you genuinely cannot make a particular week we can still meet with the other. Consistency over several months does more good than everybody being present every single time.
Both places, doing different jobs. Likewise Sheffield is the free service for the drinking itself. What belongs here is the wreckage around it between you: the promises, the suspicion, and the sheer exhaustion of managing somebody else's behaviour week after week.
Because everything is online from Hove, we are not tied to clinic hours, so we can find a slot that catches you both even around awkward rotas at the hospitals or the works. You each join from home when the timing finally lines up.
Usually within a week or two of a free 15-minute consultation. I work from Hove and see Sheffield couples securely online, from Ecclesall to Hillsborough, so there is no local waiting list and no need to find a room or parking together in the city.
Couples often pick the 90-minute session at £100, or 60 minutes at £80. Relate and the NHS offer lower-cost help in Sheffield but frequently with a wait, whereas private online sessions let us begin sooner and hold a dependable weekly time that fits both of you.
Yes. As we meet by video, you can join together from home in Sheffield or from two separate places when one of you is away. I keep some evening appointments too, so sessions need not clash with shifts or long days across the city.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.

Close to this in Sheffield, there is counselling and therapy, trauma counselling and addiction counselling.
There is more on this in my writing: the Imago dialogue for couples.
If you can reach the south coast, this work is also done face to face in Hove, where the room is — all in-person areas are listed here.
