In and around Southwick
Life in Southwick
Southwick is a small place doing a lot at once. There is the green with its cricket and its old houses, the canal and lock working away at the bottom of the town, Southwick Hill rising behind, and Fishersgate at the eastern edge. Most people who live here work somewhere else and travel daily to do it. Anxiety often attaches itself to that arrangement: the timing, the cost, the sense of being permanently slightly behind. It shows up as waking at five with the day already rehearsed, as a knot on Kingston Lane before the commute, as an unwillingness to commit to anything social in case you cannot face it when the evening arrives.

Anxiety counselling here is practical and solution-focused: we work on the worry, panic, social anxiety and over-thinking that are actually affecting your day, and on simple ways to settle a nervous system stuck on high alert.
The method travels; only the geography changes. anxiety counselling in detail explains it properly, how sessions run and what they cost answers the practical questions, and how to check my registration shows how the practice is held to account.
Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.
You are close by. Southwick is around ten to fifteen minutes east of the room along the coast road, or two stops by train to Hove, so an in-person hour is a small undertaking rather than an expedition. Secure video covers the weeks when work or family makes travel awkward, and it is the same counselling either way. Many people here default to meeting in person and use video when they need to.

Anxiety Counselling in Southwick
Anxiety work is aimed at getting you functioning comfortably again rather than at exploring everything. The opening sessions explain what your nervous system is doing, because a racing heart and a churning stomach look far less sinister once you know why they are happening. You then practise bringing that response down on purpose, so it becomes something you do rather than something you endure. After that, we address the avoidance and the mental rehearsing that keep worry supplied with fuel, and you go back to the things you have been ducking in an order you choose. In 2022/23, 24.5% of adults in West Sussex reported a high anxiety score, against 23.8% for England. NHS West Sussex Talking Therapies takes self-referrals for anxiety at no charge, and West Sussex Mind offers information and peer groups across the county.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.

Southwick questions
In a private room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove. Southwick is around ten to fifteen minutes east of the office along the coast road, or two stops by train to Hove. Every service is also available by secure video across the UK, so you can meet from any private space in Southwick or blend the two.
It is one of the shorter trips. Two stops on the train or ten to fifteen minutes along the coast road, to a private room in central Hove. That makes an evening or early appointment workable without needing to book time off.
Generally within a week or two. Things open with a free 15-minute call so you can outline what has been happening and decide whether to go further. No referral is required, and there is no queue to join before an appointment can be offered.
£80 gets you a 60-minute session. Ninety minutes is £100 and two hours is £120 when a longer appointment would help. Nothing is charged for the first 15-minute consultation, and you pay for each session as it happens rather than in advance.
It is a reasonable thing to do. The service is free, accepts self-referrals for anxiety and panic, and runs structured courses. Because waits move and sessions are limited, some people keep a referral going while starting privately so nothing is standing still.
Yes. Panic tied to travel follows a very consistent pattern, and it responds to learning what the body is doing, calming it deliberately, then rebuilding the journey in stages. Early sessions can be online so the commute is not the first hurdle you have to clear.
Very near, around ten to fifteen minutes east along the coast road by car or bus to my Hove room, or a couple of stops on the train from Southwick Station. There is parking nearby. If travelling in is inconvenient, online video sessions are just as private.

Private sessions are £80 for sixty minutes, £100 for ninety and £120 for two hours, after a free consultation. You can self-refer to free NHS Talking Therapies for West Sussex without a GP, but waits are common, so private work on your anxiety can start sooner.
Both suit anxiety. Being close, many Southwick clients pop over to the calm room, while others prefer secure video from home, especially with social anxiety. You can mix the two, and evening and weekend slots mean sessions fit around work and family.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
