Life in Southwick
There are people in Southwick who have walked up Southwick Hill many times to clear their head about something they have never described to anyone. Trauma is often like that: not a story that gets told, but a set of effects that quietly organise a life. Sleep that breaks in the small hours. A reaction to a sudden noise that seems ridiculous afterwards. A road, a month or a conversation avoided without ever quite admitting why. It can follow an accident, an incident at work, a loss, or something from childhood that nobody in the family ever mentioned again. The effects tend to look much the same from the outside.

The local picture
Official figures for Southwick, for context rather than as a description of you.
the rate of emergency hospital admissions for self-harm was 127.2 per 100,000 in 2023/24, above the England average of 117 per 100,000. Source: OHID Fingertips – Emergency Hospital Admissions for Intentional Self-Harm (2023/24).

Trauma counselling here is gentle and led by you, drawing on methods designed for trauma including the Human Givens Rewind Technique, so a difficult memory is returned to ordinary recall.
The method travels; only the geography changes. the trauma counselling page explains it properly, how sessions run and what they cost answers the practical questions, and my credentials and registration shows how the practice is held to account.
Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.
The choice of setting is yours from the start, and that is not a small thing in this work. In person means ten to fifteen minutes west along the coast to a private room in central Hove, and an hour that has nothing to do with home. Online by secure video means staying where you feel steady, with no journey afterwards. People often use both at different stages, and neither weakens the work.

Trauma Counselling in Southwick
You will not be asked to give an account of what happened. That is worth stating first, because the fear of having to relive it keeps a lot of people away for years. Bradley works with the Human Givens Rewind Technique, which lowers the intensity of a memory while you stay calm and in control and does not rely on you putting it into words. Before that, sessions concentrate on the present: sleep, the reactions that catch you out, what you have been avoiding, and what genuinely brings you back down. You set the pace, you can pause, and stopping is never treated as failure. Self-harm admissions to hospital across the county ran at 127.2 per 100,000 in 2023/24, compared with 117 per 100,000 for England. For an NHS route, NHS West Sussex Talking Therapies takes self-referrals and can assess trauma symptoms.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.

Southwick questions
In a private room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove. Southwick is around ten to fifteen minutes east of the office along the coast road, or two stops by train to Hove. Every service is also available by secure video across the UK, so you can meet from any private space in Southwick or blend the two.
Mostly listening and orientation. Bradley will ask how things are affecting you now, explain how the work runs, and answer whatever you want to ask. There is no expectation that you disclose anything about the event in that first hour, or indeed later.
Yes. The Rewind Technique is designed around that. It works with how the memory is stored rather than with a spoken account of it, so people who have never said a word about what happened can still find the intrusions and the jumpiness settle.
£80 for the hour, £100 for ninety minutes, £120 for two hours. A longer slot leaves more room to settle at the end, which some people prefer before heading back along the coast. Nothing is charged for the initial 15-minute consultation.
NHS West Sussex Talking Therapies takes self-referrals and will assess trauma symptoms, offering trauma-focused therapy where it fits or referring on within the NHS where something more specialist is needed. West Sussex Mind can also signpost other local support.
That is often the sensible answer. A private room ten to fifteen minutes away gives you an hour nobody in the house is party to. If travelling is difficult, video with headphones at a time when the place is empty is the usual alternative.
No. The Rewind Technique I often draw on is gentle and non-intrusive, so you never need to relive or speak the detail aloud. We work entirely at your pace, in my nearby Hove room or online from Southwick, and you stay in control.
We start with a free fifteen-minute call, with no pressure to explain, then a first session. Southwick Station is a couple of stops from Hove, or the coast road takes ten to fifteen minutes. If travelling feels unsafe, online video is always there.
Private sessions are £80 for sixty minutes, £100 for ninety and £120 for two hours, after a free consultation. You can self-refer to free NHS Talking Therapies for West Sussex; waits vary, and seeing me privately means gentle, sooner trauma work at a pace you control.
Some value the containment of the room for trauma work, while others feel safer on video at home; both suit the gentle Rewind Technique. Being close, popping over is easy either way. You lead the pace, with evening and weekend slots available.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
