Life in Southwick

Trauma Counselling for people in Southwick

Southwick keeps its village heart around the wide Green, where cricket is still played in summer, while the working canal and lock of Shoreham Harbour run along its southern edge and Southwick Hill rises to the Downs behind. Sitting between Portslade and Shoreham, it is a settled, friendly community with a strong local identity of its own. Everyday pressures do not spare a quiet town, and people here often prefer to keep personal matters close. A confidential counselling room a short way east in Hove offers a private space to talk, easily reached by road or a couple of stops on the train, and online sessions bring the same support home.

These figures are local context from official sources, not a description of you, but they show the scale of what people in and around Southwick are living with, and why local support matters.

The trauma counselling itself

Trauma counselling here is gentle and led by you, drawing on methods designed for trauma including the Human Givens Rewind Technique, so a difficult memory is returned to ordinary recall.

The approach is the same wherever you come from, so rather than repeat it on every page you can read it in full, the methods, what each session covers and fees, on the main trauma counselling page and on how I work.

Sessions in person or online

Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.

Southwick is close to the room, around ten to fifteen minutes east along the coast road by car or bus into central Hove. Southwick Station is on the main line, just a couple of stops from Hove, with a short walk on to Western Road at the other end. There is parking near the room. Online video sessions are always available when that suits you better.

Trauma Counselling in Southwick

Why people in Southwick come for trauma counselling

The quiet of Southwick's Green does not keep past experiences from resurfacing; trauma can return as flashbacks, hypervigilance or numbness whatever the calm around you. Trauma counselling offers a contained, unhurried space to process those memories gently, at a pace led entirely by you, drawing where it helps on the Human Givens Rewind Technique, which does not ask you to relive the detail. My room is a short way east in Hove, close and easily reached, and secure video sessions keep the same care available from home.

Southwick questions

Trauma Counselling in Southwick: common questions

Where do Southwick sessions take place, and can I meet online instead?

In a private room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove. Southwick is around ten to fifteen minutes east of the office along the coast road, or two stops by train to Hove. Every service is also available by secure video across the UK, so you can meet from any private space in Southwick or blend the two.

Do I have to describe what happened in detail?

No. Methods like the Human Givens Rewind let us process a memory without you reliving it or even speaking the detail aloud.

Is it safe to do trauma work online?

Yes, when it is paced carefully. We go slowly, keep you grounded, and you stay in control of what we approach and when.

What if I get overwhelmed during a session?

We build in ways to settle and pause, and never move faster than feels safe. Being in your own space online can make that easier.

Do I have to describe the memory for trauma counselling?

No. The Rewind Technique I often draw on is gentle and non-intrusive, so you never need to relive or speak the detail aloud. We work entirely at your pace, in my nearby Hove room or online from Southwick, and you stay in control.

How do I book trauma counselling and travel to Hove from Southwick?

We start with a free fifteen-minute call, with no pressure to explain, then a first session. Southwick Station is a couple of stops from Hove, or the coast road takes ten to fifteen minutes. If travelling feels unsafe, online video is always there.

What are your fees for trauma counselling, and what about NHS trauma support in Southwick?

Private sessions are £80 for sixty minutes, £100 for ninety and £120 for two hours, after a free consultation. You can self-refer to free NHS Talking Therapies for West Sussex; waits vary, and seeing me privately means gentle, sooner trauma work at a pace you control.

For trauma, in person in Hove or online from Southwick, and can we meet in the evening?

Some value the containment of the room for trauma work, while others feel safer on video at home; both suit the gentle Rewind Technique. Being close, popping over is easy either way. You lead the pace, with evening and weekend slots available.

How far is Southwick from the Hove counselling room?

Only around ten to fifteen minutes east along the coast road by car or bus. Southwick Station is also a couple of stops from Hove on the main line, with a short walk to Western Road. If travelling in is inconvenient, online video sessions are just as private and effective.
