In and around Peacehaven
Life in Peacehaven
People move out to Peacehaven for a fresh start surprisingly often. Somewhere quieter, cheaper, with sea air and space. What tends not to stay behind is whatever happened before. Trauma travels well. It shows up in broken sleep in a new house on Steyning Avenue, in the jolt at a sound that should mean nothing, in the careful avoidance of a particular sort of place. A town where you drive everywhere and hardly need to see anyone can hide all of this indefinitely. That works for a while. Then it stops working, usually when something small brings it all up again and you find yourself standing on the clifftop walk at an odd hour trying to breathe.

The local picture
Official figures for Peacehaven, for context rather than as a description of you.
the rate of emergency hospital admissions for self-harm was 192.7 per 100,000 in 2023/24, above the England average of 117 per 100,000. Source: OHID Fingertips – Emergency Hospital Admissions for Intentional Self-Harm (2023/24).

Trauma counselling here is gentle and led by you, drawing on methods designed for trauma including the Human Givens Rewind Technique, so a difficult memory is returned to ordinary recall.
What actually happens in the room is the same everywhere, so it is written up once: see the full trauma counselling page for the methods, how I work for fees and session lengths, and professional standards and registration if you want to check who you would be working with.
Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.
You choose the setting, which is the first piece of control this work hands back. Online sessions happen wherever you feel safest, with nobody else in the house if that matters. The alternative is the room in Hove, twenty to twenty-five minutes west along the coast road, where the hour is separate from home altogether. People often start one way and move to the other. Either is a proper trauma session.

Trauma Counselling in Peacehaven
The first thing to say is that you will not be asked to go through the event. Bradley uses the Human Givens Rewind Technique, which reduces the charge in a memory while you remain calm and in control, and it can be carried out without you describing anything in detail. Everything is paced. Early sessions are about stabilising the present: sleep, the startle response, the situations you have been organising your life around, and what genuinely settles you. Only when that is steady does anything else follow, and only when you say so. Locally, emergency admissions for self-harm stood at 192.7 per 100,000 in 2023/24 against 117 per 100,000 nationally, so there is a great deal here that never gets said out loud. Health in Mind, the East Sussex NHS Talking Therapies service, accepts self-referrals and can assess trauma symptoms, and the Sussex Mental Healthline is there overnight if things get difficult between sessions.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.

Seeing me privately usually means you can start sooner and stay with the same counsellor throughout, working at greater depth and pace; the two can run side by side, and I am glad to work alongside any NHS or GP support you already have.

Peacehaven questions
In a private room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove. From Peacehaven the coast road runs west through Saltdean and Brighton to the Hove office in around twenty to twenty-five minutes. Every service is also available by secure video across the UK, so you can meet from any private space in Peacehaven or blend the two.
No. That is central to how the Rewind Technique is used, not an afterthought. You are in charge of what gets said, and you can stop or pause at any moment. Bradley will check with you as you go rather than pressing on because a plan says so.
Yes. The pacing, the preparation and the technique itself all transfer to secure video, and being in your own space can make it easier to feel safe. For some people the twenty-five minute drive to Hove is worth it for the separation from home. Both are offered.
Sixty minutes costs £80, ninety minutes £100, and the two-hour session £120. Longer is not automatically better; some of the most useful sessions are short ones. You can talk it through in the free 15-minute consultation before committing to anything at all.
Health in Mind is the East Sussex service and takes self-referrals. They assess, offer trauma-focused therapy where it fits, and pass people on within the NHS when something more specialist is needed. Many people put a referral in and begin private sessions while they wait.
Very. A new address changes the surroundings, not the nervous system, and the quiet can even give old memories more room. It is not a sign that you have failed at a fresh start. It usually means the thing itself has not yet been dealt with directly.
Not necessarily. Secure online video sessions bring the same gentle, paced trauma work straight to your home, which many Peacehaven clients prefer given the distance. When you would rather come in, my Hove room is around twenty-five minutes west along the coast.
We start with a free fifteen-minute call, with no pressure to explain, then a first session. The coast road brings you west through Saltdean and Brighton to Hove in twenty to twenty-five minutes, or the 12 and 14 buses. If travelling feels unsafe, online video is always there.
Private sessions are £80 for sixty minutes, £100 for ninety and £120 for two hours, after a free consultation. You can self-refer to free NHS Talking Therapies for East Sussex; waits vary, and seeing me privately means gentle, sooner trauma work at a pace you control.
Some value the containment of the room for trauma work, while others feel safer on video at home; both suit the gentle Rewind Technique, and the distance makes online appealing. You lead the pace throughout, with evening and weekend slots available.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
