Life in Worthing

What is going on for people in Worthing?

Worthing is the largest town in West Sussex and it holds a lot of different lives at once: retired couples who have been here decades, families who moved along the coast for a bigger house, people who commute east every morning and see their partner properly at weekends. Some couples arrive at a genuine crossroads. You have talked about separating, perhaps more than once, and neither of you knows whether that is a threat, a plan or a way of asking for something. In 2024/25, 14.5% of adults on local GP registers had recorded depression, a shade above the England average of 14.3%. Decisions of this size are rarely made in a clear head.

What actually happens in relationship counselling?

Relationship counselling here, for couples or individuals, slows down the pattern you are caught in and builds healthier ways of hearing and being heard.

The method travels; only the geography changes. everything on relationship counselling explains it properly, how I work answers the practical questions, and my credentials and registration shows how the practice is held to account.

Where do we meet, and what happens?

Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.

The room is in Hove, twenty-five to thirty minutes east by car along the A259 or a direct train from the town, which makes a weekday appointment realistic without losing an evening entirely. Couples attend together, and one of you alone is equally welcome. Where the two of you would rather not travel side by side while things are raw, arriving separately or meeting online by secure video both work.

Relationship Counselling in Worthing

Why people in Worthing come for relationship counselling

Being at a decision point is a legitimate reason for relationship counselling, and it does not commit you to staying. The work is to slow the question down enough to answer it honestly: what has actually gone wrong, what each of you has stopped offering, what is grief for an earlier version of the relationship and what is a real incompatibility. Sometimes couples find their way back to something workable. Sometimes it becomes clear that separating is the kinder outcome, and that can be done with far less damage when it has been thought about rather than detonated. You are not required to attend as a couple; individuals do this work all the time, especially when a partner will not come. NHS West Sussex Talking Therapies is free on self-referral for your own mood, and West Sussex Mind has its head office in the town.

Worthing questions

Relationship Counselling in Worthing: common questions

Where do Worthing sessions take place, and can I meet online instead?

In a private room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove. From Worthing the office is around twenty-five to thirty minutes east by car along the A259, or a direct train to Hove. Every service is also available by secure video across the UK, so you can meet from any private space in Worthing or blend the two.

We keep threatening to separate. Would counselling force a decision?

No. Nothing is decided for you and nobody is pushed towards an outcome. The purpose is to understand what is really being said when separation gets raised, which often turns out to be a demand for something else entirely, badly expressed on both sides.

If we end up separating, has the counselling been wasted?

Not at all. Ending a relationship well matters enormously, particularly where children are involved, and doing it with some understanding rather than in a series of rows changes what the following years look like. A clear ending is a real result.

What are the session fees and lengths?

Three options: £80 / 60 min, £100 / 90 min and £120 / 120 min, priced by time rather than by how many people attend. Couples generally do better with ninety minutes. Ahead of that, a free 15-minute consultation commits you to nothing.

Can NHS West Sussex Talking Therapies help while we work this out?

It is free, takes self-referrals without a GP and treats individual anxiety and depression, so it can support either of you personally. Couples work is not its function. Running the two alongside each other is a common and sensible arrangement.

Is the train from here to Hove practical on a weekday evening?

It is direct and reasonably quick, which suits people who would rather not drive the A259 after a long day. By car it is twenty-five to thirty minutes east, with parking near the room. Either way, a later slot avoids the heaviest traffic.

Is there a direct train for relationship counselling from Worthing?

Yes. The main coastal line runs direct from Worthing and West Worthing east through Shoreham to Hove in around twenty minutes, then a short walk to Western Road. By car the A259 is straightforward. If you would rather not travel, online sessions work just as well.

How do I book relationship counselling and travel to Hove from Worthing?

Start with a free fifteen-minute call, then come over for your session. From Worthing it is around twenty-five to thirty minutes east by car along the A259, or a direct train from Worthing or West Worthing on the main line to Hove, then a short walk to the room.

What do couples pay, and is relationship counselling on the NHS in Worthing?

Sessions are £80 for sixty minutes, £100 for ninety and £120 for two hours, after a free fifteen-minute consultation. The NHS rarely funds couples work, so most Worthing clients choose private sessions, valuing a direct train east and starting without a long waiting list.

Can we attend together or meet online, and do you offer evenings for Worthing?

Yes. Couples can come to the Hove room or share a secure video call from home in Worthing. Individuals are welcome alone. Evening slots are available around work and family, and you can mix the direct train in with online sessions to fit a busy week.
