Life in Hangleton
Trauma tends to keep its own timetable, and it rarely respects a quiet residential neighbourhood. People here carry things from road accidents, from childhood, from violent incidents, from hospital wards, from work that exposed them to more than anyone should absorb. The aftermath looks ordinary from outside: a short temper at home, sleep that breaks at three, avoiding a particular junction on the way to West Way without ever saying why. Because Hangleton is settled and familiar, the contrast between the calm around you and the alertness inside you can be disorientating. Nothing is happening, and yet your body behaves as though something is about to.

Trauma counselling here is gentle and led by you, drawing on methods designed for trauma including the Human Givens Rewind Technique, so a difficult memory is returned to ordinary recall.
Rather than say the same thing on every page, the substance lives on trauma counselling in detail, with how I work for the practical questions and my BACP registration for registration and ethics.
Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.
Face-to-face trauma sessions are held in a private room in central Hove, a short bus ride or drive from Hangleton, and secure video is available for exactly the same work. Because being in charge of the arrangements is part of how trauma work stays safe, the format is your call and can change. Living this close means an in-person hour need not eat the whole afternoon, which some people find reassuring in itself.

Trauma Counselling in Hangleton
Let me be clear about the thing that stops most people getting help: you will not have to relive it in words. The work does not require a description of what happened, and pushing for one can do harm. Sessions here draw on the Human Givens Rewind Technique, which works with the way a memory has been stored rather than its content. Before that, we spend time making the present steadier, since nothing useful happens while sleep is shattered and everything feels like a threat. You decide how fast we go and you can stop the process at any moment. For NHS support, the Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service accepts self- referrals, and the Sussex Mental Healthline can be reached at any hour when a night turns bad. Across Brighton and Hove, emergency admissions for self-harm stood at 161.8 per 100,000 in 2023/24, well above the England average of 117 per 100,000.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.

It should not, and that is precisely why the pacing matters. We build stability first and only approach the memory when you are ready, using an approach that avoids retelling. If something feels like too much, we slow down or stop. You are not being pushed anywhere.
The fees are £80 for sixty minutes, £100 for ninety, and £120 for the full two hours. People doing this work sometimes choose the longer appointment so there is time to come back to the present properly before heading home. A free 15-minute chat beforehand costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
The Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service is the NHS Talking Therapies route for the city and takes self-referrals, including for post- traumatic symptoms. There is no charge. Given that 26.7% of adults locally reported a high anxiety score in 2022/23, waits are unpredictable, so some people start privately meanwhile.
Being nearby makes in-person easy, but easy is not the same as right for everyone. Some people need the door of their own home directly after a session. Try whichever appeals and change it if it does not suit; nothing is fixed after the first appointment.
It counts. Trauma is about what the event did to your nervous system, not about injuries or how serious it would look to somebody else. Witnessing something, being threatened, or a sustained frightening situation can all leave the same set of symptoms behind.

Some value the containment of the room for trauma work, while others feel safer on video at home; both suit the gentle Rewind Technique. In a quiet, family neighbourhood the privacy of either can matter. You lead the pace, with evening and weekend slots available.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
