In and around Wigan
Life in Wigan
Coping is close to a local virtue in Wigan. The former mining and mill trades left a town that respects people who get on with things without complaining, and that respect is well earned. It also means a couple in trouble in Ince, Pemberton or Hindley will often say nothing to anybody, including each other. What tends to happen is a slow substitution: practical care instead of affection, jobs done for one another instead of conversations had with one another. Both of you can be working hard for the household and neither of you feels wanted. By the time somebody looks up counselling, the two of you have usually been managing separately under the same roof for years.

Relationship counselling here, for couples or individuals, slows down the pattern you are caught in and builds healthier ways of hearing and being heard.
Rather than say the same thing on every page, the substance lives on the full relationship counselling page, with how I work, sessions and fees for the practical questions and my BACP registration for registration and ethics.
Sessions run over a secure, encrypted video link, held to the same BACP confidentiality as meeting in person. After a free fifteen-minute call, you join from any private space on a phone, tablet or laptop.
Because there is no room here and Bradley works from Hove, sessions run by video or phone. In a town where you are quite likely to know somebody wherever you go, that removes the part people most dislike. There is no door to be seen walking through in the first place. You can be on the same sofa or in different rooms, take an early or late slot around shifts, and one of you can start on your own if the other will not.

Relationship Counselling in Wigan
The strain people describe here is usually financial and physical before it is emotional: long hours, tight money, aching bodies and no time. Low mood grows in that, and it is recorded on GP registers at 18.2% of patients aged 18 and over in 2024/25, well above the England average of 14.3%. A depressed partner goes quiet and feels useless; the other picks up the slack and grows short-tempered with it; and the affection that would help either of you is the first casualty. In sessions we look at how the two of you speak when you are exhausted, what has to be said before an apology means anything, and how trust is rebuilt where something was broken and buried. Wigan Talking Therapies takes free self-referrals for individual anxiety and depression, and Wigan Council runs local drug and alcohol services.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.

Wigan questions
It is. There is no local building, no reception and nobody in the town involved. Nothing goes to your family, employer or doctor. The only exception is the standard one, where there is a serious risk to somebody's life, and I would discuss that with you.
Priced by length rather than by head: £80 for an hour, £100 for 90 minutes and £120 for two hours, the same whether one or both of you come. Ninety minutes gives two people more room. The initial 15 minutes are free.
That service is free and takes self-referrals, and it works with individuals on anxiety and low mood rather than with couples. A common arrangement is one partner using it for their own difficulties whilst the relationship itself is worked on here.
Often it can, though it takes deliberate work rather than time. Affection that has been squeezed out by exhaustion is a different problem from affection that has been withdrawn on purpose, and knowing which one you have is the first useful step.
Come alone. Working on your own responses changes the pattern between you more than people expect, and a sceptical partner sometimes joins later once they see that nobody is being put on trial. There is no requirement for both of you.
It's a fair worry, but usually the opposite is true. Bringing things into the open, with someone there to hold the conversation steady, tends to ease pressure rather than add to it. Nothing gets forced, and we go at a pace you both feel able for.
Usually within a week or two. I am based in Hove and see Wigan couples online, so there is no waiting list. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check I am the right fit, then book a first session that suits you both, whether you are in Pemberton, Standish or nearer the centre.
Relationship work usually suits the ninety-minute session at £100, though the standard sixty minutes is £80. NHS support around the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary tends to focus on individuals, so couples often come to me privately. The first fifteen-minute consultation is free.
Yes. Because it is all online, one of you can join from your Wigan home and the other from work or away, and we still meet as a couple. Evenings tend to suit best once the day settles, and I hold a regular slot so it stays steady week to week.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
Also available online across North West: Bolton, Manchester, Warrington. See all of North West.
