Life in Walsall

Why do people in Walsall reach out?

A lot of the couples who look for help in Walsall have been together a very long time. Twenty years, thirty, children grown and gone from the house in Bloxwich or Pelsall, and what is left is two people who never really had to talk because there was always something else to do. Now the something else has finished. Work has changed here too. The trades the borough was built on have thinned out, and insecure hours put a strain on a marriage that neither person names as a strain. Round Darlaston and Willenhall people tend to keep things behind the door, sort it out themselves, say nothing to the neighbours. That works until it does not.

What is relationship counselling, in practice?

Relationship counselling here, for couples or individuals, slows down the pattern you are caught in and builds healthier ways of hearing and being heard.

The approach does not change with the postcode, so rather than repeat it on every page you can read it in full, the methods and what each session covers, on everything on relationship counselling, alongside how I work, sessions and fees and my BACP registration.

How does meeting by video work in practice?

Sessions run over a secure, encrypted video link, held to the same BACP confidentiality as meeting in person. After a free fifteen-minute call, you join from any private space on a phone, tablet or laptop.

Sessions are online by secure video, which means no journey across the borough and nothing to be seen walking into. Bradley works from Hove, so there is no appointment in town to explain. Some couples sit together at the kitchen table; others join separately, one at home and one on a work break. If your partner is unsure, they can listen for the first ten minutes without saying a word, which is easier to agree to than a room with a stranger in it.

Relationship Counselling in Walsall

Why people in Walsall come for relationship counselling

Relationship counselling here is often less about crisis than about a conversation that has been avoided for years. Retirement, an illness, a grown child moving back, and suddenly the two of you are in the house together with no practical task to hide behind. It also comes up when one partner is low and the other has been quietly holding everything. Recorded depression on GP registers in the borough reached 16.6% of patients aged 18 and over in 2024/25, above the England average of 14.3%, and a low mood carried in silence changes a marriage long before anyone books anything. We work on plain speaking: saying what you want without it sounding like an accusation, and hearing it without preparing a defence. You do not need your partner present to start. In England you can self-refer for your own anxiety or low mood through the NHS Talking Therapies finder, and the Beacon in Walsall is the borough's drug and alcohol service where drinking has become part of it.

Walsall questions

Online Relationship Counselling in Walsall: common questions

We have been married thirty years and never talked like this. Is it too late?

It is not. Couples who have gone decades without that kind of conversation often make faster progress than younger ones, because there is a great deal of shared history to work with. Awkwardness at the start is normal and it passes within a session or two.

What are your fees for a couple, and is a longer session better?

£80 / 60 min, £100 / 90 min and £120 / 120 min, charged the same whether one or both of you attend. For two people, 90 minutes usually works better than an hour. The free 15-minute consultation comes first and costs nothing at all.

Can we get relationship help through the NHS Talking Therapies finder?

That route covers individuals in England with anxiety or depression and lets you refer yourself without a GP. It is not a couples service. Plenty of people use it for their own state of mind while doing the relationship work separately and privately.

My husband thinks this is airing our business to a stranger. What do I say?

That nothing leaves the session, that nobody is being judged, and that he can say very little in the first hour if he prefers. Many partners come reluctantly and stay because it turns out to be practical rather than an inquisition.

Can I book something without my partner knowing yet?

You can, and it is a common way to begin. A first conversation on your own is a chance to work out what you want before raising it at home. Nothing is contacted, sent or recorded anywhere that would reveal the appointment.

We tend to just get on with things, will counselling feel odd?

That is very common here, and there is no need to be used to talking about feelings. Sessions go at your pace, and part of the work is making it easier to put things into words. Meeting online from home often makes that first honest conversation feel less exposing.

How soon can we start online relationship counselling in Walsall?

Online relationship counselling for Walsall couples has no waiting list. We open with a free 15-minute consultation, and once a weekly time suits you both, sessions can start soon after. Whether home is in Bloxwich, Darlaston or Aldridge, it is all arranged by video.

What does relationship counselling cost in Walsall, and is it available on the NHS?

Walsall couples can self-refer free to NHS Talking Therapies, though waits are common. Private sessions with me are £80 for 60 minutes, 100 for 90 and 120 for two hours, after a free 15-minute consultation. Many choose private work to be seen sooner.

Can my partner and I join from different places in Walsall, and are evening sessions available?

Partners can join from separate places. One might log in from home in Willenhall while the other connects from work, and evening appointments outside the nine-to-five are often available, which helps couples working across the Black Country's trades and workshops.
