Online Relationship Counselling · Southampton

In and around Southampton
Life in Southampton
A lot of households here are run on opposite clocks. The docks and cruise terminals never fully stop, Southampton General Hospital keeps people on nights, and one partner can spend years sleeping through the hours the other is awake. Some jobs take a person away for weeks at a time and then hand them back to a house that has learned to manage without them. Meanwhile the city itself keeps turning over, students arriving in Portswood every autumn and leaving again, neighbours who never quite become friends. Couples in that setting often find they have nobody nearby to steady them, and the two of you end up absorbing everything on your own.

Relationship counselling here, for couples or individuals, slows down the pattern you are caught in and builds healthier ways of hearing and being heard.
The method travels; only the geography changes. the full relationship counselling page explains it properly, how I work, sessions and fees answers the practical questions, and qualifications, registration and ethics shows how the practice is held to account.
Sessions run over a secure, encrypted video link, held to the same BACP confidentiality as meeting in person. After a free fifteen-minute call, you join from any private space on a phone, tablet or laptop.
Working by secure video means the rota stops being the deciding factor. Bradley is in Hove, there is nothing in the city to attend, and a session can sit at eight in the morning after a night shift or late in the evening before one. You can be in the same room in Bitterne or on two separate screens, and if one of you is away with work the hour still happens rather than being postponed indefinitely.

Relationship Counselling in Southampton
Drink is part of this more often than couples expect. Hospital admissions for alcohol-related conditions ran at 711.6 per 100,000 in 2023/24, above the England average of 504.1 per 100,000, and long before anything reaches a hospital it has usually reshaped an evening, a weekend and then a marriage. The other common thread is plain erosion: night shifts, missed meals together, and a slow drift into a functional arrangement neither of you would have chosen. Sessions concentrate on what happens between you rather than on establishing fault, particularly on repair, since the days of careful distance after a row usually do more damage than the row. Attending as a couple is not required and many people begin alone. Free self-referral is available through NHS Talking Therapies Hampshire, italk, and Solent Mind, the largest mental health charity in the county, runs support here.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.

Southampton questions
Yes, and they are used constantly. Early morning slots suit people coming off a night shift, and later evening ones suit those going onto it. The weekly time can also move when your pattern rotates, rather than the work stopping every few weeks.
The same as for one person: £80 for an hour, £100 for ninety minutes and £120 for two hours. Couples often take the longer session so neither of you is squeezed. The initial 15-minute consultation is free and is the place to ask anything practical.
You can refer yourself to NHS Talking Therapies Hampshire without going through a GP, and it does not cost anything. Solent Mind runs wellbeing support locally as well. Neither rules out private work, and starting a free referral while you decide is sensible.
Most couples in that position do individual sessions while one of you is away and joint sessions around the departures and returns. Connections offshore are unpredictable, so it is usually better to plan around them than to rely on them and lose the hour.
It becomes one very quickly. Whatever the drinking is doing for the person doing it, the other partner has usually spent a long time managing, covering and worrying. Both sides of that can be looked at here, and Change Grow Live runs the city's drug and alcohol service.
Yes. Shift patterns are one of the main reasons couples here choose online sessions. We look at your rotas together and find a recurring time that works around nights and changeovers, joined from home, so the sessions survive even an irregular week.
Usually within a week. There is no waiting list, so after a free 15-minute consultation we book a first session around your rotas. It is held securely online, joined from home in Portswood, Shirley or Ocean Village, so shift changeovers at the docks or hospital need not stand in the way.
Sessions are £80 for 60 minutes, £100 for 90 minutes and £120 for 120 minutes, after a free 15-minute consultation. NHS Talking Therapies in Hampshire is free but can involve a waiting list, whereas private work with Bradley lets the two of you choose a time that fits your shifts.
