Online Relationship Counselling · Middlesbrough

In and around Middlesbrough
Life in Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough was built on iron, steel and chemicals, and the losing of that has been going on for longer than most marriages here have lasted. It leaves a mark on how two people manage each other. A contract ends, or the hours in the chemical and process industry of Teesside get cut, and the one who earned less starts carrying more while the other stops saying anything at all. There is a particular way that shame turns into temper by teatime. Whether you are in Linthorpe or up at Berwick Hills, the pressure is the same: two people who love each other, worn thin by money and worry, arguing about the wrong thing every night because the right thing is unbearable to say.

Relationship counselling here, for couples or individuals, slows down the pattern you are caught in and builds healthier ways of hearing and being heard.
The approach does not change with the postcode, so rather than repeat it on every page you can read it in full, the methods and what each session covers, on relationship counselling in detail, alongside how sessions run and what they cost and my credentials and registration.
Sessions run over a secure, encrypted video link, held to the same BACP confidentiality as meeting in person. After a free fifteen-minute call, you join from any private space on a phone, tablet or laptop.
Everything happens by secure video. Bradley is in Hove and there is nowhere to attend in Middlesbrough, which for a town this size is often an advantage rather than a loss. Nobody sees you parked outside. You can be in the front bedroom in Acklam with the door shut while the children are downstairs. Couples can share a screen or dial in separately if one of you is on lates. It starts with a free 15-minute call and settles into a weekly time you keep.

Relationship Counselling in Middlesbrough
Most couples arrive late here, and usually because something has finally cracked rather than because it has been building. The work is unpicking the pattern underneath the crack. Who goes quiet, who pushes, what each of you decided years ago that the other was thinking. In Middlesbrough, 23.7% of adults reported a high anxiety score in 2022/23, fractionally below the England average of 23.8%, and anxiety of that sort sits between partners as much as inside them, showing up as irritability, control, or one of you going out rather than staying in the room. You do not have to bring your partner. A lot of people start alone and find that useful in itself. Impact on Teesside, the TEWV NHS Talking Therapies service, takes individual self-referrals, Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind runs local support, and Middlesbrough Recovering Together is the free drug and alcohol service if that is part of what is happening between you.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.
Book a free 15-minute callMy online counselling sits alongside the help available locally. In Middlesbrough, you can refer yourself directly to Impact on Teesside, the TEWV NHS Talking Therapies service for free NHS talking therapy, with no GP referral needed.
Private sessions with me usually mean you can start sooner and stay with the same counsellor throughout; I am glad to work alongside any NHS or GP support you already have.

This is not a crisis service. If anyone is in immediate danger call 999. For urgent mental health support, call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option. The Samaritans are free, day or night, on 116 123, or text SHOUT to 85258.
Middlesbrough questions
It feels odd for about twenty minutes. Pride and privacy run deep in this town, and much of that pride is well earned. Talking to someone outside your family and outside your street is not the same as airing it publicly, and most people settle faster than they expect.
It does not. £80 covers 60 minutes, £100 covers 90 and £120 covers 120, whether one or both of you attend. Couples generally get more out of 90 minutes. The first 15-minute consultation costs nothing and carries no obligation to book anything after it.
Impact on Teesside, the TEWV NHS Talking Therapies service, works with individuals on anxiety and low mood rather than with couples, and it is free to self-refer. If one of you is struggling in your own right, that route makes sense in parallel with relationship work here.
Possibly both. Middlesbrough Recovering Together is the free confidential drug and alcohol service and is the right place for the drinking itself. Relationship work deals with the other half, the trust, the broken promises, and what you have both become around it.
Money arguments are almost never only about money. Under them sit fear, blame and a change in who each of you thought you were. Those parts are workable in counselling, even when the finances themselves stay exactly as difficult as they were.
Because everything is online from Hove, we're not tied to clinic hours, so we can find a slot that catches you both even around awkward rotas in the process industry. You each join from home in Middlesbrough when the timing finally lines up.
Usually within a week or two of a free 15-minute consultation. I am based in Hove and meet Middlesbrough couples securely online, from Linthorpe to Nunthorpe, so there is no waiting list and nothing to arrange together beyond a private place to talk.
Most couples choose 90 minutes at £100, or 60 minutes at £80. Relate and NHS services on Teesside can cost less but often involve a wait, while private online work lets us start sooner and keep a dependable weekly time for you both.
That is very common in Middlesbrough, and starting online can feel more private than a local waiting room. Because we meet by video we can work together or from two places, and I keep some evening slots so sessions sit around shifts.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
