Life in Swansea

Why people in Swansea get in touch

Swansea can look like the answer to stress from the outside. The bay, the Gower peninsula half an hour away, the marina and the maritime quarter. Living here is a different matter. There are two university campuses at Singleton and on the seafront, large employers such as the DVLA and Morriston Hospital running around the clock, and a great many people working hours that never quite line up with anybody else's. Anxiety thrives in that. A body kept alert by rotating shifts stops knowing when it is allowed to rest. In Brynmill, Uplands or Sketty there are houses full of people who appear entirely fine and are checking their pulse at midnight.

What actually happens in anxiety counselling?

Anxiety counselling here is practical and solution-focused: we work on the worry, panic, social anxiety and over-thinking that are actually affecting your day, and on simple ways to settle a nervous system stuck on high alert.

Rather than say the same thing on every page, the substance lives on everything on anxiety counselling, with the practical side for the practical questions and how to check my registration for registration and ethics.

How do online sessions actually work?

Sessions run over a secure, encrypted video link, held to the same BACP confidentiality as meeting in person. After a free fifteen-minute call, you join from any private space on a phone, tablet or laptop.

Bradley works from Hove, so all Swansea counselling happens online by secure video. That fits this city particularly well. Sessions can be arranged around shifts, around teaching timetables, or around a week where no two days look alike. Nothing has to be crossed and no waiting area has to be sat in, which for an anxious person removes the hardest part of the appointment. A regular hour, held each week, does the rest.

Anxiety Counselling in Swansea

Why people in Swansea come for anxiety counselling

People arrive with panic, with worry that will not switch off, or with a social dread that has been narrowing their life so gradually they only recently noticed. None of it is irrational. It is a threat system that has been trained by something and never retrained since. Personal wellbeing figures gave Swansea an average anxiety rating of 3.46 out of 10 in the year ending March 2023, above the Wales average of 3.3, which says something about the city and nothing about you in particular. Sessions are solution-focused and concrete. We work out the trigger, the physical response and the avoidance that has grown up around both, then give you methods for bringing the level down that you can actually use mid-shift. The avoided things are then rebuilt at a pace you set. Your GP is the NHS route to the local primary mental health support service, and Swansea Mind is in the city too.

Swansea questions

Online Anxiety Counselling in Swansea: common questions

How do I get an appointment, and how long is the wait?

You start with a free 15-minute call, generally available within a few days. Nothing is decided in it. If you want to go ahead, weekly sessions usually begin within a week or two, and no referral from anybody is required at any stage.

What are the fees?

A 60-minute appointment costs £80. Ninety minutes is £100 and 120 minutes is £120, which some people prefer when there is a lot to cover. Anxiety work usually suits the hour. Nothing is charged for the 15-minute consultation at the beginning.

What is the NHS route for anxiety in Swansea?

Through your GP, who can refer you to the local primary mental health support service. How long that takes will depend on demand locally. Swansea Mind operates in the city, and CALL, the mental health helpline for Wales, is free and confidential on 0800 132 737.

I share a student house in Brynmill. Where would I even take a session?

Most people manage with headphones and a closed bedroom door, and we can pick a time when the house is quiet. If that is impossible, a study room or a parked car both work. The session is audio and video from your end only.

My shifts change constantly. Is weekly counselling realistic?

It is, and rotating hours are ordinary here. The diary can be set a few weeks ahead, and a fixed slot can be moved when a run of nights falls on it. What matters is that the sessions keep happening, not that they never move.

I can walk on Gower whenever I like, why would I need counselling for anxiety?

Fresh air and the coast genuinely help, but they rarely reach the underlying patterns that keep anxiety going. Counselling works alongside those walks, giving you tools that last beyond the moment. We meet by secure video wherever you are around the bay.

How soon can I begin online anxiety counselling in Swansea?

Often within a week of your free 15-minute consultation. Sessions run by secure video from my Hove practice, so whether you are in Uplands, Sketty or out towards Mumbles, you can start without waiting for travel or a room to become free in the city.

Are your anxiety fees different from NHS help in Swansea?

NHS Wales care through Swansea Bay University Health Board is free, though waits are common. I charge £80 for a 60-minute session, £100 for 90 minutes and £120 for two hours, with a free 15-minute consultation, so you can start privately and sooner if that suits you better.

Can people in Swansea have anxiety sessions in the evening online?

Yes, some evenings are available by secure video. That helps if you work at the docks, the marina or one of the campuses and cannot get away in the day. You join privately from home in Sketty or Gorseinon, so no drive across Swansea is needed after work.
