Life in Saltdean

What brings people in Saltdean to counselling?

Saltdean climbs away from the sea in long avenues, and almost everything here involves a hill. Coombe Vale and Longridge Avenue run up from Marine Drive, the white cliffs sit at the bottom of it all, and the Lido stands in the middle of the village like a piece of held breath. Anxiety in a place like this often centres on the body. A racing heart on the climb home, a chest that tightens for no obvious reason, an afternoon lost to searching symptoms on a phone. It is also common for worry to fasten on to being far out along the coast, with a bus timetable standing between you and anywhere else.

What would we do together in anxiety counselling?

Anxiety counselling here is practical and solution-focused: we work on the worry, panic, social anxiety and over-thinking that are actually affecting your day, and on simple ways to settle a nervous system stuck on high alert.

What actually happens in the room is the same everywhere, so it is written up once: see everything on anxiety counselling for the methods, session lengths and fees for fees and session lengths, and qualifications, registration and ethics if you want to check who you would be working with.

What does a session actually involve?

Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.

Face-to-face sessions happen in Hove, roughly twenty to twenty-five minutes west along the coast road, in a private room in the centre of town. Secure video is the other option and it is used just as much out this way, since it removes the journey completely. Neither is treated as second best. A common pattern here is meeting in person to begin with, then working online once you know each other, with occasional visits after that.

Anxiety Counselling in Saltdean

Why people in Saltdean come for anxiety counselling

Health worry and panic respond well to a practical approach, which is what this is. The first job is to understand exactly what your body is doing and why, because once the sensations stop looking like evidence of disaster they lose most of their power. Next come methods for bringing the alarm down deliberately, used often enough that they become reliable. Then the checking, the reassurance-seeking and the quiet avoidance get dismantled a piece at a time, since these are what keep the whole cycle running. None of this requires you to be brave in one go. In 2022/23, 26.7% of adults across Brighton and Hove reported a high anxiety score, compared with 23.8% nationally. The Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service offers free NHS Talking Therapies for anxiety and takes self-referrals, while Mind in Brighton and Hove holds information about other support across the city.

Saltdean questions

Anxiety Counselling in Saltdean: common questions

Where do Saltdean sessions take place, and can I meet online instead?

In a private room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove. From Saltdean the coast road brings you west through Rottingdean and Brighton to the Hove office in around twenty to twenty-five minutes. Every service is also available by secure video across the UK, so you can meet from any private space in Saltdean or blend the two.

Twenty-five minutes each way feels like a lot. Do I have to travel?

Not unless you want to. The full course of anxiety work can be delivered online by secure video, and for people out along this stretch of coast that is often the sensible arrangement. The Hove room stays available if and when you fancy a change.

How soon could I start?

Most people are seen within a week or two. A free 15-minute call comes first, which is a relaxed conversation about what is troubling you and how the work might go. Nothing else is needed: no referral, no waiting list, no formal assessment.

What are the fees, and does anxiety work need a longer slot?

An hour costs £80. Should you want more time, ninety minutes is £100 and two hours is £120, but the standard hour suits most anxiety work perfectly well. The 15-minute consultation at the start is free and there is nothing to pay if you decide against continuing.

Can I go through the Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service instead?

You can refer yourself to them directly and it costs nothing. They provide the NHS Talking Therapies programme for the city, with structured, time-limited courses. Waits vary, so people frequently join their list and begin private sessions while they wait for a place.

I keep convincing myself I am seriously ill. Is that anxiety?

It very often is, and it is a recognised pattern rather than something odd. Health anxiety runs on checking, reassurance and interpreting normal bodily signals as danger. It is worth having anything new looked at medically once, then working on the cycle itself in counselling.

Is anxiety counselling reachable from Saltdean?

Yes. The coast road west through Rottingdean and Brighton to my Hove room takes around twenty to twenty-five minutes by car, with the 12 bus an alternative. Given the distance, many Saltdean clients prefer online video sessions, which are just as effective and private.

How do I book anxiety counselling and reach Hove from Saltdean?

Book a free fifteen-minute call, then a session. From Saltdean the coast road runs west through Rottingdean and Brighton to Hove, about twenty to twenty-five minutes by car, with the 12 bus along the seafront and a change for Hove. If travelling is hard, we can meet online.

What do anxiety sessions cost, and is NHS help available from Saltdean?

Private sessions are £80 for sixty minutes, £100 for ninety and £120 for two hours, after a free consultation. You can self-refer to free NHS Talking Therapies for Brighton & Hove without a GP, but waits are common, so private work on your anxiety can start sooner.

For anxiety in Saltdean, in person or online, and do you run evenings?

Both suit anxiety. Given the distance from the city, many Saltdean clients prefer secure video from home, while others value the calm room after the coastal drive. You can mix the two, and evening and weekend slots save an awkward journey at busy times.
