In and around Rottingdean
Life in Rottingdean
A village the size of Rottingdean has no anonymity in it. Walk down The High Street and you will be seen; sit by the village pond and someone will stop for a word. For most of the year that is the best thing about the place. For an anxious person it can be the hardest, because every outing carries the possibility of a conversation you do not have the energy for, and declining gets noticed. Add the summer, when visitors fill the lanes around Kipling Gardens and the car park overflows, and the world can shrink to the house and the drive. Social worry feeds on that. So does the habit of rehearsing encounters that have not happened yet.

Anxiety counselling here is practical and solution-focused: we work on the worry, panic, social anxiety and over-thinking that are actually affecting your day, and on simple ways to settle a nervous system stuck on high alert.
What actually happens in the room is the same everywhere, so it is written up once: see the full anxiety counselling page for the methods, how sessions run and what they cost for fees and session lengths, and my BACP registration if you want to check who you would be working with.
Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.
Bradley sees people in a private room in central Hove and online by secure video. From Rottingdean it is a scenic fifteen to twenty minute drive along the coast road into Brighton and on to Hove. Several people make that journey precisely because it takes them out of the village, where an appointment can be kept without any of it becoming local news. Where the drive is part of the problem, video removes it entirely.

Anxiety Counselling in Rottingdean
Anxiety counselling is practical work with a clear shape. First we make sense of the physical side, since a pounding heart, a dry mouth and the urge to walk out are all one system doing its job at the wrong moment. Then come reliable ways of dialling that down, so you are not simply waiting for the feeling to pass. After that the avoided things are put back gradually and in your own order: the shop, the gathering on The Green, the phone call you keep postponing. Social anxiety in a small village needs that graded approach, because retreating is so easy to arrange here. The wider city figure for a high anxiety score was 26.7% in 2022/23, set against 23.8% for England. Free NHS support is available through the Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service, which takes self-referrals, and Mind in Brighton and Hove holds information for the whole city.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.

Seeing me privately usually means you can start sooner and stay with the same counsellor throughout, working at greater depth and pace; the two can run side by side, and I am glad to work alongside any NHS or GP support you already have.

Rottingdean questions
In a private room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove. From Rottingdean it is a scenic fifteen to twenty minute drive along the coast road into Brighton and on to Hove. Every service is also available by secure video across the UK, so you can meet from any private space in Rottingdean or blend the two.
Entirely. Sessions take place in Hove or online, so nothing about them happens in the village. Bradley works alone and holds records securely. Confidentiality is discussed properly in the first session, including the narrow circumstances in which it could ever be limited.
Typically inside a fortnight. Everything starts with a free 15-minute call, which is a low-key conversation about what has been happening rather than an assessment. If you want to continue, a weekly time is agreed and the work begins straight away.
Sixty minutes is £80. There is £100 for ninety minutes and £120 for two hours if you want a longer appointment, though anxiety work seldom needs it. You are not charged for the opening 15-minute consultation, and there is no package to sign up to.
You can, without a GP appointment first. It is the NHS Talking Therapies service for this area and it is free. The waits change through the year and the courses are time-limited, which is why some people begin privately while holding their place.
It usually does. Crowd avoidance is maintained by relief, so each time you turn back the pattern strengthens. Sessions work on calming the response first, then rebuilding the situations in small steps, at a pace you set, starting well below the level that currently frightens you.
Yes. My room is in central Hove, fifteen to twenty minutes along the coast and well away from the High Street and pond, and you arrive straight to your appointment. If you would rather not be seen travelling, online video sessions keep it entirely private.
Book a free fifteen-minute call, then a session. From Rottingdean the coast road heads west along the seafront into Brighton and on to Hove, a scenic fifteen to twenty minute drive, with the 12 bus along the coast. If anxiety makes the trip hard, we can meet online.
Private sessions are £80 for an hour, £100 for ninety minutes and £120 for two, after a free consultation. You can self-refer to free NHS Talking Therapies for Brighton & Hove without a GP, but waits are common, so private work on your anxiety can begin sooner.
Both suit anxiety. In a small village where faces are known, some value the discreet room well away from the High Street, while others prefer video from home, especially with social anxiety. You can mix the two, and evening and weekend slots keep the trip flexible.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
