Psychotherapy · Kemp Town
Psychotherapy for Kemp Town and the surrounding area, in person or online. Kemp Town, on Brighton's eastern side, runs from St James's Street down to the Marina, with its Regency crescents and village atmosphere. From my room in nearby Hove I offer a calm, confidential space to do this work.

In and around Kemp Town
Kemp Town is home to the Royal Sussex County Hospital on Eastern Road, the city's main acute NHS hospital and a large local employer.
Life in Kemp Town
Kemp Town keeps a village feel on Brighton's eastern edge. St James's Street bustles with independent cafes, delis and a proudly open, inclusive community, while the grand Regency sweep of Sussex Square and Lewes Crescent leads down to the sea and the Enclosures. Nearby sit the Royal Sussex County Hospital and Queen's Park, and the Marina lies just beyond the cliff. It is a close-knit, characterful place where people often know one another, which can make privacy feel precious when you are going through something difficult. A confidential room a little further west in Hove gives that distance, somewhere you are unlikely to see a familiar face, and online sessions offer the same discretion from home.

Psychotherapy here goes a little deeper and usually a little longer than counselling, into the patterns, beliefs and early relationships that shape how you feel now, so change is understood at the root and holds.
The approach is the same wherever you come from, so rather than repeat it on every page you can read it in full, the methods, what each session covers and fees, on the main psychotherapy page and on how I work.
Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.
From Kemp Town the journey west runs through the city and on into Hove. The 7 bus along the seafront and St James's Street heads towards Brighton centre, where you can change or continue by taxi to Western Road, roughly fifteen to twenty minutes in all. Driving follows the seafront the same way. When crossing town feels like too much, the same sessions are available online by secure video.

When the same difficulty keeps returning in different forms.
How early bonds still shape the way you connect now.
Working with a harsh inner voice and a shaky sense of self.
When something unresolved keeps replaying beneath the surface.
Understanding the root, not just quieting the symptom.
Insight that holds, so change does not slip back.
Psychotherapy in Kemp Town
If difficulties keep returning whatever changes around you in Kemp Town, you may want to understand their roots rather than keep managing the surface. Psychotherapy is deeper, longer work, making sense of patterns formed long ago and how they still shape your relationships and choices now. It asks for a little regular travel, but many find the short journey out of the neighbourhood itself creates helpful separation. We meet in my private Hove room, around fifteen to twenty minutes west, or by secure video, always at a depth and pace that feels safe.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.

Seeing me privately usually means you can start sooner and stay with the same counsellor throughout, working at greater depth and pace; the two can run side by side, and I am glad to work alongside any NHS or GP support you already have.

Psychotherapy usually goes deeper and longer, into the patterns, beliefs and early relationships shaping how you feel now, rather than only the present difficulty. It suits people who notice the same things keep coming round.
Not necessarily, but depth work benefits from time. We agree the pace and depth together and review as we go, so it stays led by you.
Only where it helps make sense of the present. We follow what is alive and relevant for you, gently, never forcing a return to anything before you are ready.
Many clients find it is, and that the short journey west actually helps mark the session off from daily life. Deeper work benefits from a regular rhythm, which the fifteen to twenty minute trip supports. When travel is hard, online video sessions keep the work going.

Yes. Depth work relies on continuity, so many Kemp Town clients keep a fixed weekly time, meeting in Hove or by secure video when the cross-city trip is too much. Evening appointments help protect that rhythm, and mixing in-person and online keeps the work steady week to week.
