Life in Peterborough

Why do people in Peterborough reach out?

Trauma reaches a fast-growing city through every ordinary door. A collision on the roads out towards the fenland, an injury in a warehouse, an assault, a birth at Peterborough City Hospital that went badly, or something carried here from another country and another life. Emergency hospital admissions for self-harm were 99.5 per 100,000 in 2023/24, below the England average of 117 per 100,000, and admissions only ever count the people who reach a hospital. Most of it gets carried quietly through shifts and school runs in Stanground, Paston or Hampton, by people sleeping badly and flinching at sounds they used to ignore completely.

What would we do together in trauma counselling?

Trauma counselling here is gentle and led by you, drawing on methods designed for trauma including the Human Givens Rewind Technique, so a difficult memory is returned to ordinary recall.

Rather than say the same thing on every page, the substance lives on trauma counselling in detail, with the practical side for the practical questions and professional standards and registration for registration and ethics.

How do online sessions actually work?

Sessions run over a secure, encrypted video link, held to the same BACP confidentiality as meeting in person. After a free fifteen-minute call, you join from any private space on a phone, tablet or laptop.

Sessions take place online, by secure video, with Bradley in Hove. Where trauma is concerned there are two clear advantages. You never have to sit in an unfamiliar waiting area with your back to a door, and you never have to explain to anyone at work where you are going. You choose the room, and you can end the call at any moment without justifying it. That control is part of the work rather than a detail of the arrangements.

Trauma Counselling in Peterborough

Why people in Peterborough come for trauma counselling

The work is paced by you and does not depend on your describing what happened. That is worth stating plainly, because the assumption that you must go through it in detail keeps a great many people away for years. Bradley uses the Human Givens Rewind Technique, which works with the way a memory is stored and is carried out while you stay calm, without any spoken account of the event. The first stretch is stabilisation: sleep, grounding, and reducing what the week costs you before anything is approached directly. You can slow the pace or stop it altogether, and that counts as sensible rather than as failure. NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Talking Therapies takes self-referrals and assesses trauma symptoms, and CPSL Mind is available locally alongside. Nothing about that referral prevents you starting private work while you wait for it.

Peterborough questions

Online Trauma Counselling in Peterborough: common questions

Something happened before I came to this country. Can it still be worked on here?

Yes. Where the event took place makes no difference to how the memory is held, or to how it is worked with. Nor does how long ago it was. What matters is what it is doing now to your sleep, your concentration and your ordinary daily life.

Self-harm admissions here were 99.5 per 100,000, below the England average. Does that mean less need?

It means fewer recorded admissions than the England average of 117 per 100,000 in 2023/24, which is not the same thing as less distress. Hospital figures capture a narrow slice of it. A great deal of untreated trauma never appears in any statistic anywhere.

Will NHS Talking Therapies here accept a referral about trauma?

NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Talking Therapies assesses trauma symptoms as part of self-referral and refers onward where something more specialised is required. No GP letter is needed in England. Plenty of people hold that referral while working privately, and there is nothing irregular in doing both.

How much, and how long is this going to take?

Sessions are £80 for sixty minutes, £100 for ninety and £120 for two hours. Length of treatment varies far too much to promise anything, though preparation usually takes longer than the memory work that follows. The free 15-minute consultation is where to ask what yours might involve.

I saw something at work that I cannot stop replaying, and I still do the same shift. Where would we start?

With making the shift survivable, not with the memory. Grounding, sleep and reducing the intrusions come first, and for some people that alone changes a great deal. Only once things are steadier, and only with your agreement, do we go anywhere near what you saw.

Can trauma counselling work around unpredictable shifts?

Yes. Online sessions from Hove are not tied to fixed clinic slots, so we can shape timing around changing rotas or an early train. We never rush the work, and I make sure each session ends in a settled way before you go back to your day.

How soon can I start online trauma counselling in Peterborough?

We can start at a pace that feels safe. I work online from Hove with people across Peterborough and the surrounding Fens, so there is no clinic queue. A free 15-minute consultation comes first, then we agree a beginning that suits your week and your readiness.

What are your trauma counselling fees, and can I get it on the NHS in Peterborough?

The NHS provides trauma-focused therapy through your GP, though referral routes and waits vary. My private sessions are £80 for 60 minutes, £100 for 90 and £120 for 120, with a free 15-minute consultation, so you can begin without waiting on a referral.

Is online trauma counselling better than travelling for it in Peterborough?

Online lets you stay in a private space you know, which many find steadying with difficult events, and there is no journey after a long shift. We can use longer 90 or 120-minute sessions and evening times so the work has enough room to unfold safely.
