Online Anxiety Counselling · Rotherham
Online anxiety counselling for Rotherham, by secure video. From a base in Hove I work with people across Rotherham, from the town centre and the Minster to the streets around the Magna steelworks, with the same BACP-registered, confidential support as an in-person session, and no journey.

In and around Rotherham
Life in Rotherham
Rotherham has been through industrial decline and then through years of unwanted national attention, and both left a wariness about outsiders and about being talked about. Anxiety in a town like this is often bound up with reputation: who knows, who might see, what gets said in the shop. In 2022/23, 24.3% of adults reported a high anxiety score, above the England average of 23.8%. The steel and advanced manufacturing sector still employs people on shifts that make sleep unreliable, and in Maltby, Rawmarsh and Dinnington there is the separate, grinding worry about hours and money. Wickersley may look comfortable from the outside, and the same knot sits behind plenty of its front doors.

Anxiety counselling here is practical and solution-focused: we work on the worry, panic, social anxiety and over-thinking that are actually affecting your day, and on simple ways to settle a nervous system stuck on high alert.
What actually happens in the room is the same everywhere, so it is written up once: see the main anxiety counselling page for the methods, how sessions run and what they cost for fees and session lengths, and my BACP registration if you want to check who you would be working with.
Sessions run over a secure, encrypted video link, held to the same BACP confidentiality as meeting in person. After a free fifteen-minute call, you join from any private space on a phone, tablet or laptop.
Sessions are held by secure video. I work from Hove and there is no room here, which in a town this size is often an advantage. Nobody sees your car outside a building and asks about it later. You can be at home in Brinsworth or Greasbrough with the door shut, and the counsellor is a stranger with no connection to anyone you know. We keep one regular weekly time, and the week starts to hold its shape around it.

Anxiety Counselling in Rotherham
The work here is practical and focused on getting something to move. We take a recent episode of anxiety and pull it apart properly: the trigger, the prediction, the physical rush, and the thing you did afterwards to make it stop. That final part is usually where the problem lives, because relief teaches the fear that it was right to sound the alarm. So we test the prediction instead, in steps you set, and review what genuinely happened. Sleep and shift patterns get attention early, since neither is a side issue. On the NHS side, this town does not have its own separately named talking therapies service in the way some cities do, so the route is the NHS Talking Therapies finder, which lets you refer yourself in England without a GP appointment. It is worth using even if you begin privately.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.
Book a free 15-minute callMy online counselling sits alongside the help available locally. In Rotherham, you can refer yourself directly to NHS talking therapies for anxiety and depression, with no GP referral needed. You can find support through the NHS Talking Therapies finder.
Private sessions with me usually mean you can start sooner and stay with the same counsellor throughout; I am glad to work alongside any NHS or GP support you already have.

This is not a crisis service. If anyone is in immediate danger call 999. For urgent mental health support, call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option. The Samaritans are free, day or night, on 116 123, or text SHOUT to 85258.
Rotherham questions
Entirely private. I am several hundred miles away with no local connections at all, sessions happen in your own home, and what is said stays between us within the usual professional limits. For many people in a close community that distance is the thing that makes starting possible.
Nothing to begin with. The first 15-minute consultation is free so that you can hear how I work before deciding. Sessions themselves are £80 / 60 min, with £100 / 90 min and £120 / 120 min available if you want a longer appointment. You pay per session.
There is, though it is reached through the national NHS Talking Therapies finder rather than a service with its own local name. Self-referral is allowed across England, so you do not need to see a GP first, and you can join a list while working privately.
Yes, and it needs addressing directly rather than as a footnote. Broken sleep amplifies everything, so we look at what is achievable within your rota, what you can protect, and how to reduce the extra worrying that builds when you are awake at four in the morning.
Counselling cannot change what is in your account, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. What it can change is the part where worry runs all night without producing a decision, and where shame stops you asking about help you are entitled to.
Video sessions happen wherever you feel unseen, at home, in a parked car, somewhere quiet away from familiar faces. There's no clinic to be spotted entering, the connection is secure and confidential, and nothing about our work need be visible to anyone locally.
Usually within a week. After a free 15-minute consultation we book a first session by secure video. I'm based in Hove and work online across Rotherham, so there's no waiting list and no trip into town from Wickersley, Maltby or the outlying villages.
Sessions are £80 for 60 minutes, £100 for 90 and £120 for two hours, after a free 15-minute consultation. NHS talking therapies in Rotherham are free but can involve a wait; privately and online, you can usually start sooner and keep one regular time.
Yes. I work from Hove by secure video, not a room in Rotherham, so there's no drive in from Rawmarsh or Wath. Evening or off-peak slots are often possible, which suits anxiety that builds around shift work and family life.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
Also available online across Yorkshire & North East: Sheffield, Doncaster, Barnsley. See all of Yorkshire & North East.
If anxiety counselling is not quite what you are looking for, depression counselling, trauma counselling and counselling and therapy may fit better in Rotherham.
Some further reading, if that helps before getting in touch: settling a spike of urgency and the miracle question.
