Life in Woodingdean
A lot of walking happens up here. People go out along the Downs, past Castle Hill, round Happy Valley, partly for the air and partly to get away from their own head for an hour. Trauma often lives in exactly that gap. It rarely arrives labelled. It shows up as sleep that will not hold, as a jolt at a sound behind you, as a sudden flatness in the middle of an ordinary day, as certain places and dates given a wide berth without much discussion. Some of it is recent, some goes back to childhood, and a good deal of it has never been said out loud to another person at all.

Trauma counselling here is gentle and led by you, drawing on methods designed for trauma including the Human Givens Rewind Technique, so a difficult memory is returned to ordinary recall.
The method travels; only the geography changes. everything on trauma counselling explains it properly, how I work answers the practical questions, and qualifications, registration and ethics shows how the practice is held to account.
Sessions take place in a private, comfortable room at Intergen House on Western Road in central Hove, held to the strict BACP confidentiality you would expect. We begin with a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, and the same sessions are available by secure video if travelling is difficult or you would simply prefer it.
You choose where this happens, which matters more here than in other work. The Hove room is twenty minutes down the hill and gives you an hour that is entirely separate from the house. Secure video means finishing the session where you are already settled, with no journey while you are still raw. Plenty of people use one at first and the other later. Both are proper trauma sessions.

Trauma Counselling in Woodingdean
Nobody will ask you to describe the event. Bradley uses the Human Givens Rewind Technique, which reduces the charge held in a memory while you stay calm and in control, and it does not require you to put anything into words. Everything before that is groundwork in the present: how you are sleeping, what triggers the reaction, the places you have quietly ruled out, and what genuinely helps you settle again. The pace is yours, checked as you go, and pausing is always allowed. Across Brighton and Hove the self-harm admission rate was 161.8 per 100,000 in 2023/24 against 117 per 100,000 for England, which suggests plenty of unspoken difficulty. The Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service takes self-referrals and can assess trauma symptoms.

No. That fear keeps a lot of people away for years, so it is worth being clear. The Rewind Technique works without a spoken account of the event, and you decide throughout what is discussed. You can slow things down or stop whenever you want to.
£80 for an hour, £100 for ninety minutes and £120 for two hours. Some people choose the longer appointment so there is room to arrive and to settle before heading back up the hill. The introductory 15-minute call is free and commits you to nothing.
The Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service covers Woodingdean and accepts self-referrals. They assess, provide trauma-focused therapy where it fits their remit, and refer on within the NHS when it does not. Mind in Brighton and Hove can point you towards other local support.
It depends what you want from the hour. Coming down puts real distance between the work and your home, which some people find helpful. Others would rather not drive or take a bus afterwards, and video removes that entirely. You can try both.
Old material commonly waits until circumstances change: a bereavement, retirement, a child reaching a particular age, or simply more quiet than there used to be. Coping for years is not wasted effort. It usually means the memory was managed rather than resolved.
Yes. Secure online video sessions bring the same gentle, paced trauma work straight to your home, which many Woodingdean clients prefer when the trip down feels like too much. When you would rather come in, my Hove room is around twenty minutes away.
We begin with a free fifteen-minute call, with no need to share detail, then a first session. The road drops down past the racecourse into Brighton, then west to Hove, about twenty minutes by car or bus. If travelling feels too much, online video is always available.
Private sessions are £80 for an hour, £100 for ninety minutes and £120 for two, after a free consultation. You can self-refer to free NHS Talking Therapies for Brighton & Hove; waits vary, and seeing me privately means gentle, sooner trauma work at a pace you set.
Some value the containment of the room for trauma work, while others feel safer on video at home; both suit the gentle Rewind Technique. From a hilltop community, online can spare a hard journey. You lead the pace, with evening and weekend slots available.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
