Online Trauma Counselling · Halifax
Online trauma counselling for Halifax, by secure video. From a base in Hove I work with people across Halifax, from the Piece Hall and the centre to the streets around the Minster, with the same BACP-registered, confidential support as an in-person session, and no journey.

In and around Halifax
Life in Halifax
In a valley like this, some of what people carry is shared and some is entirely private. There are households that have been flooded more than once and still feel it when the rain sets in for days. There are people who saw something at work, or grew up in a house where the mood turned without warning, and have never once said so aloud. Emergency hospital admissions for self-harm ran at 106.6 per 100,000 in 2023/24, below the England average of 117 - a count of hospital contact rather than of what is being held. The first signs are usually physical: broken sleep, a startle response, roads avoided, a flatness that those around you read as distance.

Trauma counselling here is gentle and led by you, drawing on methods designed for trauma including the Human Givens Rewind Technique, so a difficult memory is returned to ordinary recall.
Because the work itself is the same wherever you live, the detail sits in one place rather than all of them: trauma counselling in detail sets out the methods, the practical side covers the practicalities, and how to check my registration covers accountability.
Sessions run over a secure, encrypted video link, held to the same BACP confidentiality as meeting in person. After a free fifteen-minute call, you join from any private space on a phone, tablet or laptop.
Everything takes place by secure video into a space you choose, because there is nowhere in the town to attend and Bradley works from Hove. For this kind of work that is an advantage rather than a substitute. You keep your own door and your own surroundings, and when the hour finishes you are already home instead of walking back down through the centre feeling raw. If a week is not the week, we spend it more gently.

Trauma Counselling in Halifax
The first thing worth knowing is that you will not be asked to describe what happened. That expectation stops a great many people from ever making contact, and it is not how this is done. The Human Givens Rewind Technique works with the alarm your nervous system attached to the memory rather than with the story of it, while you stay calm, awake and in control, and it does not require the content to be spoken aloud. What we talk about instead is the present: what you avoid, what wakes you, what your body does before your mind has caught up with it. Everything moves at the speed you set. For the anxiety and low mood that usually accompany trauma, the national NHS Talking Therapies finder takes self-referrals in England, and Healthy Minds Calderdale offers independent support in Halifax.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.
Book a free 15-minute callMy online counselling sits alongside the help available locally. In Halifax, you can refer yourself directly to NHS talking therapies for anxiety and depression, with no GP referral needed. You can find support through the NHS Talking Therapies finder.
Private sessions with me usually mean you can start sooner and stay with the same counsellor throughout; I am glad to work alongside any NHS or GP support you already have.

This is not a crisis service. If anyone is in immediate danger call 999. For urgent mental health support, call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option. The Samaritans are free, day or night, on 116 123, or text SHOUT to 85258.
Halifax questions
No. The Rewind Technique is built so that a spoken account is not required, and I will not press for detail you have not offered. Some people finish this work having said almost nothing about the event. Most of what we discuss is its present-day effect on you.
It fits the pattern closely, and around here it is not unusual. An event that overwhelmed you leaves an alarm response that fires at the cues attached to it, which in this case means rain, forecasts and river levels. That response settles with the same approach as any other.
It is a paced, non-invasive process for settling the charge held in a memory while you stay relaxed and in control throughout. The memory itself remains; what fades is the intensity bolted onto it. It is often completed within a small number of sessions, though I would not promise a figure in advance.
I cannot give you a total, because the number of sessions is not fixed at the outset. The rates are £80 / 60 min, £100 / 90 min and £120 / 120 min, and the first 15-minute consultation is free. Rewind work often uses the 90-minute length so there is room to settle at both ends.
For the anxiety and low mood that travel with trauma, NHS Talking Therapies takes self-referrals via the national finder, as the town has no separately branded team. Healthy Minds Calderdale runs user-led support locally. If you feel unsafe rather than distressed, contact a GP or NHS 111.
It can be. We move at your pace and keep grounding techniques to hand, and being in your own space often helps you feel more in control. If additional in-person support were ever needed, I'd help you find suitable local options alongside our work.
We begin with a free 15-minute consultation, usually within a week, then a first video session at a careful pace. Working from Hove across Halifax means no waiting list and no slow trip into town when you're feeling vulnerable; the session simply comes to you.
You can; Calderdale Royal Hospital and NHS talking therapies are free, though often with a wait. My fees are £80 for 60 minutes, £100 for 90 and £120 for two hours. Longer sessions can suit trauma work, and privately you'd start sooner at your own pace.
For many people, yes. Being in your own space in Halifax, rather than an unfamiliar room after a long hill journey, can feel steadier. I work from Hove by secure video, and we can use 90-minute or evening sessions so there's time to settle and close gently.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
