Online psychotherapy for Neath, by secure video. From a base in Hove I work with people across Neath, from the town centre and the abbey to the streets around the abbey ruins, with the same BACP-registered, confidential support as an in-person session, and no journey.

In and around Neath
Life in Neath
Neath, at the foot of its valley near Swansea, grew on coal and metals and has lived with their long decline. Insecure work, money pressure and the isolation of the valley communities all shape the pressures people here carry.
Neath, Castell-nedd, lies at the foot of its valley where the river Neath runs down towards the sea near Swansea. The town grew around the medieval Cistercian abbey, whose ruins still stand, and later on coal, copper and tinplate, with the Neath and Tennant canals built to move it all. Above the town the Gnoll estate is now a country park, and the Vale of Neath climbs north towards the celebrated Waterfall Country around Ystradfellte. Neath has a strong rugby tradition, its club long known as the Welsh All Blacks, and the wider valley gave the world the actor Richard Burton, born at nearby Pontrhydyfen. Districts such as Melincryddan, Cimla and Briton Ferry gather around the old market streets.
In tightly-held valley communities a long way from specialist help, a secure video link closes the distance and keeps the work private.
Neath sits in Neath Port Talbot, the same county as the Tata Steel works at Port Talbot; local hospital care is provided through Swansea Bay University Health Board, including Neath Port Talbot Hospital at Baglan.

The local picture
These figures are local context from official sources, not a description of you, but they show the scale of what people in and around Neath are living with, and why local support matters.
In Neath Port Talbot (the council area covering Neath) the average anxiety rating was 3.58 out of 10 in the year ending March 2023, above the Wales average of 3.3 (a higher score indicates more anxiety). Source: Office for National Statistics (ONS), Personal well-being estimates by local authority (Year ending March 2023 (2022-23)).
Local data last reviewed June 2026. Each figure shows the year and links to the official source it was read on.
Psychotherapy here goes a little deeper and usually a little longer than counselling, into the patterns, beliefs and early relationships that shape how you feel now, so change is understood at the root and holds.
The approach is the same wherever you live, so rather than repeat it on every page you can read it in full, the methods, what each session covers and fees, on the main psychotherapy page and on how I work.
Sessions run over a secure, encrypted video link held to the same strict BACP confidentiality as meeting in person. After a free fifteen-minute call to check we are a good fit, you join each session from any private space using a phone, tablet or laptop, no software to install, no waiting room and no journey at either end.
Swansea's services are close to Neath, but if you live further up the valley the nearest specialist help can be a good way off. My practice is based in Hove, on the Sussex coast, so I am not able to offer appointments in the town in person. What I can offer is confidential counselling by secure video, which reaches Neath and everywhere else in Wales, and the UK too. For many people, meeting from home is both easier and more private.

When the same difficulty keeps returning in different forms.
How early bonds still shape the way you connect now.
Working with a harsh inner voice and a shaky sense of self.
When something unresolved keeps replaying beneath the surface.
Understanding the root, not just quieting the symptom.
Insight that holds, so change does not slip back.
Psychotherapy in Neath
Some of what people carry in a valley town has deep roots, in family, in loss, in the weight a place shaped by industrial decline can hand down. Psychotherapy makes space for that longer work, looking beyond the immediate problem to the patterns underneath. It needs a steady, regular relationship, and I offer that by secure video from Hove, meeting week to week wherever you are in the valley. The old barrier of getting to a distant consulting room, so real up the Vale of Neath, never has to decide whether this deeper work is open to you.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.

Neath questions
Yes. I work with people right across Neath, from the town centre and the abbey outwards, and anywhere else in Wales, by secure video, no need to travel to Hove, and just as confidential as meeting in the room.
Psychotherapy usually goes deeper and longer, into the patterns, beliefs and early relationships shaping how you feel now, rather than only the present difficulty. It suits people who notice the same things keep coming round.
Not necessarily, but depth work benefits from time. We agree the pace and depth together and review as we go, so it stays led by you.
Only where it helps make sense of the present. We follow what is alive and relevant for you, gently, never forcing a return to anything before you are ready.
There is no set agenda. You bring what is on your mind, and we explore it together, gradually noticing the patterns and roots beneath. Over time this builds understanding and change. Sessions are held by secure video, wherever you are around Neath and its valley.
Usually within a week or two. Psychotherapy is deeper, ongoing work, so we begin with a free 15-minute consultation to see whether it fits. I work with people across Neath and the valley by secure video, with no local waiting list to hold things up.
Each session is £80 for 60 minutes, £100 for 90 or £120 for 120, after a free 15-minute consultation. NHS Wales seldom offers open-ended psychotherapy without a long wait, so private online sessions give you deeper, sustained work that can begin promptly.
Yes. Many people find the depth of psychotherapy comes more easily from a familiar room than a clinic down towards the coast. Working by secure video, I see people weekly in Neath and up the valley, with evening slots to fit around work.
For most people up the valley it is. Working by secure video means the session comes to you rather than you driving down towards the coast for it, which makes it far easier to keep appointments week after week.
No, my practice is in Hove. I do not hold face-to-face sessions in Neath, but I work with people throughout the valley and across Wales online, by secure video, wherever you are based.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
