In and around Bournemouth
Life in Bournemouth
Low mood in a resort town has a particular shape. Everybody around you seems to be on holiday, or leaving, or newly arrived, and the settled networks that normally hold a person up are not always there to lean on. Recorded depression on GP registers stood at 13.3% of patients aged 18+ in 2024/25, just under the England average of 14.3%, and that ordinary-looking figure covers very different lives: students, seasonal staff, and people who moved here later on for the mild coast and found the winters longer than expected. Boscombe and Pokesdown are a good deal quieter in January than in July. The Royal Bournemouth Hospital keeps going regardless, and so, mostly, do people.

Depression counselling here is steady and structured: we focus on the low mood, lost motivation and disconnection affecting you now, and on rebuilding the energy, routine and self-worth that hold a day together.
The method travels; only the geography changes. the main depression counselling page explains it properly, how I work, sessions and fees answers the practical questions, and my BACP registration shows how the practice is held to account.
Sessions run over a secure, encrypted video link, held to the same BACP confidentiality as meeting in person. After a free fifteen-minute call, you join from any private space on a phone, tablet or laptop.
All of this happens online by secure video, from Hove. There is no room in this town to get to, which with depression is the point rather than a shortfall, since the journey is usually what defeats people and not the hour itself. You can take a session from a bedsit in Southbourne or a flat in Westbourne with nobody any the wiser. On the flat weeks, an appointment that asks nothing of you except to be present is often the one fixed thing left standing.

Depression Counselling in Bournemouth
Depression counselling is steady and structured, which suits a town whose calendar swings this hard. We usually begin with the shape of a real week: waking time, meals, actual contact with another human being, and the things you used to do and stopped. Then we rebuild slowly and unglamorously, one item at a time, because motivation turns up after the action rather than before it. We also take seriously what is genuinely heavy, such as a contract that ends in autumn, a friendship group that emptied out in June, or money that never quite lasts the month. Those are circumstances, not faulty thinking, and pretending otherwise helps nobody. Steps2Wellbeing, NHS Talking Therapies Dorset, is the self-referral route in this area, and your GP is worth speaking to where sleep or appetite has gone badly wrong. Dorset Mind runs local groups if what you actually need is other people.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.

Bournemouth questions
Because a register records what has been written down, not what is felt. That 13.3% covers patients aged 18+ in 2024/25, against 14.3% for England, and it says nothing about a winter in a town built for summer. Feeling isolated in a lively resort is an ordinary experience, not a strange one.
It is. Steps2Wellbeing, NHS Talking Therapies Dorset, accepts self-referrals across the area, and in England your GP does not have to write first. If sleep, appetite or safety have slipped badly, tell your GP too. Using that service and private sessions together is perfectly ordinary and nobody will mind.
The fees do not move: £80 for sixty minutes, £100 for ninety, £120 for two hours. Some people space sessions further apart through the quiet months rather than stopping altogether, and that is a reasonable plan to make out loud. The opening 15-minute conversation is free and carries no expectation.
Frequently it is both, and separating them is part of the work. Loneliness after a move is a circumstance, and left long enough it starts behaving like low mood, flattening interest and shrinking the week. We would look at both honestly, and Dorset Mind can help with the social side while sessions handle the rest.
Then leave the camera off and we talk anyway. Nobody has to look presentable, and a good deal of useful work happens with a blank screen and a voice. If you need to cancel, say so and we rearrange without fuss, because low mood does not keep to a diary and treating that as failure helps nothing.
It can. Arriving somewhere lively yet feeling unconnected is common in a resort with such a shifting population, and it is something we can work with. Sessions are held online by secure video from home. The room itself is in Hove.
