It holds a special place in Welsh culture as the birthplace of the national anthem, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, written here by Evan and James James and remembered by a memorial in Ynysangharad Park. The singer Tom Jones was born in the town, and its rugby club plays at Sardis Road.
