In and around Dover
Life in Dover
Some weeks are heavy for no reason you could give to anyone. Dover is a working town at the edge of the country, and a lot of what happens here depends on decisions taken a long way away: freight volumes, contracts, the state of the cross-Channel trade. Living with that in the background is wearing in a way that is hard to point at. In Tower Hamlets, Charlton and Whitfield people carry on, because carrying on is what is done. Then you notice you have stopped ringing anyone back, that the evening drink starts earlier, that you snap at your children over nothing. There is no diagnosis in any of that. There is something worth talking about.

Counselling and therapy here is one steady starting point for whatever you are carrying, anxiety, low mood, addiction, relationships or the past, integrative and led by you, so we begin with what matters most and shape the work around you.
What actually happens in the room is the same everywhere, so it is written up once: see everything on counselling and therapy for the methods, session lengths and fees for fees and session lengths, and how to check my registration if you want to check who you would be working with.
Sessions run over a secure, encrypted video link, held to the same BACP confidentiality as meeting in person. After a free fifteen-minute call, you join from any private space on a phone, tablet or laptop.
There is no consulting space in Dover; Bradley works from Hove and everything runs by secure video. That takes travel out of it, which matters in a town where getting anywhere else for an appointment eats half a day. You need an hour, a door that shuts and somewhere you will not be overheard. Early mornings and evenings are the easiest to hold for people on shifts, and no one sees you arrive anywhere.

Counselling and Therapy in Dover
Start with this when the difficulty has not yet acquired a name. The work is present-focused and shorter than psychotherapy: what is going on now, what it is costing you, what could be different by the spring. Distress in this area is not unusual, and it is not always visible. Emergency hospital admissions for self-harm ran at 116.3 per 100,000 in 2023/24, just under the England average of 117 per 100,000, and most people who get to that point were quietly struggling for a long while first. Counselling is a way of not waiting that long. The first session takes stock rather than fixing anything: sleep, drink, money, work, who you talk to honestly, what changed and when. Many people find six to twelve sessions enough. NHS Talking Therapies in Kent and Medway is free, takes self-referrals and is worth knowing about either way.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.

This is not a crisis service. If anyone is in immediate danger call 999. For urgent mental health support, call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option. The Samaritans are free, day or night, on 116 123, or text SHOUT to 85258.
Dover questions
Mostly you talk and I listen closely, which people find stranger than they expect. I will ask about sleep, drink, work, money and who you can be straight with. There is no couch and no silence you are expected to fill. By the end you usually have a clearer sense of the shape of things.
There is no minimum. You pay for each hour as you have it: £80 / 60 min, £100 / 90 min or £120 / 120 min, with nothing paid up front. Most people start weekly and review as they go. The 15-minute call at the beginning is free and there is no obligation after it.
It is free, you refer yourself without a GP appointment, and for many people it is the sensible first move. What it offers is a structured, time-limited course aimed at anxiety and depression, and the wait varies. Some people do that first and come here for whatever a protocol cannot reach.
Say so rather than disappearing. Sessions are paid one at a time, so stopping costs nothing extra, and some people space them out to fortnightly through a lean stretch instead of ending. We would also look at the free routes locally, which are there precisely for periods like that.
Not at all, though it can make the first step feel larger. Plenty of people arrive convinced they should be able to manage on their own, and that belief is often part of what has worn them down. Nothing about the hour requires you to be practised at talking about yourself.
It is. Many people in Dover are used to coping quietly through insecure, port-linked work. There is nothing to make a fuss about: online sessions are private and straightforward, held from home, and we go entirely at your pace, with no one else needing to know.
Generally within days. With no waiting list, a free 15-minute consultation is usually followed by a first session that same week. It is held securely online, joined from home beneath the castle or near the harbour, so a hard-pressed town at the coast adds no journey to attend.
You pay £80 for 60 minutes, £100 for 90 minutes or £120 for 120 minutes, after a free 15-minute consultation. NHS Talking Therapies is free to self-refer to but can mean waiting, while private counselling with Bradley starts sooner and keeps a consistent weekly time.
Yes. Where reaching out can feel hard, online sessions let you talk privately from your own home, with no local waiting room and nobody to pass on the way in. Joined at a time that suits you, including the evening, everything you share stays entirely confidential.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
