In and around Truro
Life in Truro
Cornwall's drug figures are not what visitors would guess. Deaths from drug misuse ran at 7.1 per 100,000 for 2022 to 2024, above the England average of 5.8, and 5 adults per 1,000 were in treatment at specialist drug-misuse services in 2020/21, above the England average of 4.5. Being at the end of the country insulates nobody from any of it. Use runs through seasonal work, through long winters on reduced hours, and through the ordinary streets of Trelander, Redannick and Newham. What the distance does change is how hard it is to reach anything, and how visible you are when you try.

Substance use counselling here is non-judgemental and one-to-one, working with the pain, fear or loneliness the substance has been managing, at a pace that protects your sense of safety.
The method travels; only the geography changes. everything on substance use counselling explains it properly, the practical side answers the practical questions, and professional standards and registration shows how the practice is held to account.
Sessions run over a secure, encrypted video link, held to the same BACP confidentiality as meeting in person. After a free fifteen-minute call, you join from any private space on a phone, tablet or laptop.
Everything is by secure video, since Bradley is in Hove. That removes the single biggest practical barrier in Cornwall, which is the journey. Nobody drives an hour to a service and an hour back, and nobody is seen outside a building that announces why they are there. You choose the setting. Sessions also carry on if you work a season up-country or move within the county, which happens often.

Substance Use Counselling in Truro
There is no expectation that you have stopped, or that you intend to. This is drug-specific work that begins from what is actually happening and works outwards from there. Cocaine that has become part of every weekend, cannabis relied on for sleep, ketamine, stimulants, prescribed medication used differently from its purpose: all of it can be described plainly and none of it is treated as a confession. We look at what the use does for you and what has changed since it started doing it. For treatment, harm reduction or prescribing, Cornwall Council's Drug and Alcohol Action Team is the free route and We Are With You delivers locally. Cornwall Mind covers the anxiety and low mood that so often accompany heavy use. Counselling is separate from all of them.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.
Book a free 15-minute callMy online counselling sits alongside the help available locally. In Truro, free local drug and alcohol support is available through Cornwall Council's Drug and Alcohol Action Team.
For confidential information and advice, FRANK (on 0300 123 6600) and Drinkline on 0300 123 1110 are free, and Alcoholics Anonymous and SMART Recovery run peer-support meetings you can find online.
Other local and national support verified for this area includes:
This is not a crisis service. If anyone is in immediate danger call 999. For urgent mental health support, call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option. The Samaritans are free, day or night, on 116 123, or text SHOUT to 85258.
If you drink heavily or use drugs daily, do not stop suddenly on your own. Withdrawal can cause seizures and can be dangerous. Speak to your GP or a local drug and alcohol service first, and they can arrange a safe, medically supported withdrawal. Counselling works alongside that, not instead of it.
Truro questions
That is often the most useful way to start. Decisions made under pressure rarely last. An hour a week spent describing what is really happening, without having to justify any of it, tends to make a later decision much clearer and considerably more durable.
Sessions are £80 for 60 minutes, £100 for 90 and £120 for 120, with the first 15-minute conversation free. Payment is per session and pausing is straightforward, which matters a good deal where income rises and falls with the season. Nothing is booked in blocks.
It is the local drug and alcohol service, reached through Cornwall Council's Drug and Alcohol Action Team, providing free structured treatment, harm-reduction advice and prescribing. This is private counselling about the reasons underneath. Having both running at the same time is common.
Not by me. No NHS record is created, no letter goes anywhere, and nothing is shared with an employer. Notes stay private and are held under the BACP Ethical Framework, apart from the rare case where a life is at serious risk.
By what it costs you rather than by what other people do. Seasonal work with long hours and late finishes normalises a great deal. The measures that matter are whether the use has spread beyond the season, and whether you could leave it if you chose.
Yes. Because we meet by secure video, the distance to bigger centres makes no difference and there is no journey up-country. We look together at what sits underneath the use. The counselling room is in Hove, so Truro is served online.
Often yes. After a short message we set up a free 15-minute call, then arrange your first session, frequently within the same week. Because we meet online, you can talk from home anywhere in Truro, whether that is Gloweth, Kenwyn or Trelander, with no waiting list to join.
I charge £80 for 60 minutes, £100 for 90 minutes and £120 for two hours, and the initial 15-minute consultation is free. NHS drug services and GP referrals in Truro are free of charge but often have waits, while private sessions can start quickly and stay flexible around you.
I hold some appointments later in the day, which helps if you work shifts or long hours around Truro. Sessions are online, so you join from wherever feels private, from Redannick to Newham. In-person work is only at my Hove room, for those who can reach the Sussex coast.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
