Online Addiction Counselling · Wolverhampton
Online addiction counselling for Wolverhampton, by secure video. From a base in Hove I work with people across Wolverhampton, from the city centre and the ring road to the streets around St Peter's, with the same BACP-registered, confidential support as an in-person session, and no journey.

In and around Wolverhampton
Life in Wolverhampton
On a match day the streets around Molineux Stadium fill and empty again inside a couple of hours, and for the rest of the week the city goes quietly about its business. Wolverhampton carries an old industrial pride, and the metalworking heritage is still how a lot of people describe where they are from. Pride of that sort does not sit easily beside admitting something has got hold of you. So it stays indoors. The betting account nobody has seen. The drinking that begins once the front door shuts in Bushbury or Oxley. The phone that eats an evening in Penn. Heads stay down, everyone carries on, and the thing grows in the space that leaves it.

Addiction counselling here treats the pain beneath the habit, not just the symptom, alcohol, drugs, gambling, food or behavioural, so recovery is something you grow into rather than force.
What actually happens in the room is the same everywhere, so it is written up once: see the addiction counselling page for the methods, session lengths and fees for fees and session lengths, and my credentials and registration if you want to check who you would be working with.
Sessions run over a secure, encrypted video link, held to the same BACP confidentiality as meeting in person. After a free fifteen-minute call, you join from any private space on a phone, tablet or laptop.
Bradley is in Hove, so there is no room in the city and everything runs online by secure video. Where families have lived in the same few streets for generations and somebody always knows somebody, that is a real advantage. Nothing arrives in the post, nobody watches you go in, and the hour fits round shifts instead of round buses. Students at the University of Wolverhampton take it behind a closed door; people working nights take it in the afternoon before they go back in.

Addiction Counselling in Wolverhampton
Addiction covers a wide field in this work. Drink and drugs are in it, and so is gambling, together with gaming, shopping, pornography and the phone, because the underlying deal is identical in each case: something outside you that changes how you feel, leaned on until the rest of life bends round it. The verified picture for the city is grim in places. Hospital admissions for alcohol-related conditions ran at 778 per 100,000 in 2023/24 against an England average of 504.1, and deaths from drug misuse reached 8.5 per 100,000 across 2022 to 2024, well above the England average of 5.8. Those numbers describe a population under strain rather than people short of willpower. Recovery Near You is the city's substance misuse service, and the NHS find a service directory lists structured treatment.
Not sure if it is right for you? A free fifteen-minute call is a no-obligation way to talk it through.
Book a free 15-minute callMy online counselling sits alongside the help available locally. You can find your nearest free NHS-funded drug and alcohol service via the NHS “find a service” directory (search “Wolverhampton”).
For confidential information and advice, FRANK (on 0300 123 6600) and Drinkline on 0300 123 1110 are free, and Alcoholics Anonymous and SMART Recovery run peer-support meetings you can find online.
Other local and national support verified for this area includes:
This is not a crisis service. If anyone is in immediate danger call 999. For urgent mental health support, call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option. The Samaritans are free, day or night, on 116 123, or text SHOUT to 85258.
If you drink heavily or use drugs daily, do not stop suddenly on your own. Withdrawal can cause seizures and can be dangerous. Speak to your GP or a local drug and alcohol service first, and they can arrange a safe, medically supported withdrawal. Counselling works alongside that, not instead of it.
Wolverhampton questions
It starts with a free 15-minute call, and your GP need not know unless you want them to, because private counselling sits outside the NHS system entirely. If it suits both of us, a weekly hour is generally available within a week or two of that first conversation.
An hour a week at £80 is the usual arrangement. Ninety minutes costs £100 and two hours costs £120 where more time genuinely helps. The introductory quarter of an hour is free of charge, and nothing is paid in advance, so the commitment only ever runs a week at a time.
It is the substance misuse service for the city, listed through the NHS find a service directory, and it is free at the point of use. It covers assessment, prescribing and structured treatment. Using it stops you having counselling as well in no way at all, and the two frequently run together.
Yes. A phone is perfectly adequate and a good many sessions happen that way. Headphones improve the sound and the privacy at the same time. What matters much more than the device is having an hour where nobody walks in and nothing needs answering.
Just as seriously. Gambling leaves no physical trace, so it gets minimised until the money says otherwise, and by then a good deal of shame has piled up. We would look at the pull itself: the minutes before you open it, and what the next twenty are meant to fix.
Not at all. Reaching out takes real strength, and an addiction is something many capable people struggle with quietly. Counselling is simply a confidential space to understand what is going on and change it. Because it is online, you can talk it through privately from home.
Quite soon. Wolverhampton is served online from the Hove consulting room, so there is no local waiting list. We start with a free 15-minute consultation, then arrange a first full session, often within the same week, at a time that works for you.
Sessions are £80 for 60 minutes, £100 for 90 and £120 for two hours, after a free 15-minute consultation. NHS addiction support in Wolverhampton is free through your GP or community teams but can mean waiting, while private counselling starts sooner and more flexibly.
The room is in Hove, so Wolverhampton is served online rather than face to face, with no trip into town from Bilston or Wednesfield. Because it is by video, evening sessions can often be arranged, which helps where a keep-your-head-down culture makes asking hard.
A free fifteen-minute call is the simplest place to start, no obligation, just a chance to see if we are the right fit.
Also available online across Midlands: Walsall, Dudley, Birmingham. See all of Midlands.
People who come for addiction counselling in Wolverhampton often also look at substance use counselling, counselling for drinking problems and trauma counselling.
If you would like to read more first, I have written about the four-stage cycle of addiction and the four Rs framework.
Within reach of Sussex? addiction counselling is offered in the room in Hove, where the room is as well as online; see the full list of areas.
